Keflezighi, Flanagan, True Lead Stellar World-Class Field at Beach to Beacon 10K

CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine - Boston Marathon champ
Meb Keflezighi will join a talented, deep gro up of American distance runners - including Olympic medalist Shalane Flanagan and Maine native Ben True - for the TD Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race on Aug. 2 in Cape Elizabeth, Maine.

Both of the defending champions - Kenyans Micah Kogo and Joyce Chepkirui - also are returning to headline a 30-runner professional field dotted with Olympians, World Champs and record setters, TD Beach to Beacon organizers announced.

"We put together a solid American contingent last year, but I think this one is even stronger, especially on the women's side, where a number of Americans are capable of sub 33s," said Larry Barthlow, the elite athlete coordinator for the TD Beach to Beacon. "On the men's side, favorite son Ben True is making his return to Maine with his sights set on winning the race and he certainly is more than capable. But there also are a handful of international runners who will have something to say about that. We're set up for another great race day."

Prize money for the winner of the men's and women's races is $10,000.

Manzano Headlines GNC Live Well Liberty Mile

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - 2012 Olympic silver medalist and reigning USA 1 Mile road champion Leo Manzano aims to continue his top Mile racing form in Pittsburgh at the 3rd GNC Live Well Liberty Mile. The race, slated for Friday evening, Aug. 1 in downtown Pittsburgh, will showcase top American Milers battling for a guaranteed prize purse of $20,000 in the
American Development Pro Mile with $4000 for each champion.

"We warmly welcome Leo Manzano to our third edition. Leo knows how to win big races, but he will face our best men's field to-date," said Patrice Matamoros, GNC Live Well Liberty Mile race director. "On August 1, we look forward to another exciting Mile road race in the City of Champions."

Manzano, 29, who earned a 1500 meter silver medal (3:34.79) at the 2012 Olympics, has continued his success this summer by winning the USA 1500m title, clocking 3:38.63 in Sacramento, but Oregon Track Club Elite standout
Jordan McNamara, who has a Mile personal record of 3:52.42, also has his sights on victory here. Last year, McNamara was edged out by Macklin Chaffee in a photo finish, both timed in
4:01. In early June, McNamara, 27, won the 2014 Nike Festival of Miles in 3:54.27, setting meet and State records in St. Louis.

2014 State of the Sport - Part III: U.S. Race Trends

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - (July 9, 2014) - Without sounding too much like a broken record from past Running USA annual reports, 2013 proved to be

another historic and record breaking year for U.S. running events and overall finishers. Our 2014 State of the Sport -

Part III: U.S. Race Trends report clearly shows that the Second Running Boom

is still going strongly as it enters its third decade. The snapshot below summarizes the key race numbers and statistics from 2013 and past years.

2013 U.S. Running Snapshot:

Females account for 10.8 million finishers nationwide (a record number) and represent the highest percentage ever reported of 57% from event fields. Males in 2013 also set a new high with more than 8 million finishers in U.S. races. Overall, there were 19,025,000 finishers in U.S. running events (another record).
The number of U.S. race finishers has increased nearly 300% since 1990, and female representation has grown from just 25% to an all-time high of 57% in 2013; see Table 1.
Total number of U.S. running events reached 28,200, another all-time high, and a 7% increase since 2012; see Table 3.
The half-marathon continues to fuel the growth of the Second Running Boom with an annual increase of 6% finishers (1.96 million, another new high) with an astounding 61% female participation.
In 2013, the 5K maintained the #1 position of all race distances with 8.3 million finishers (another record number), claiming 43% of all finishers in the U.S., while the half-marathon again held the #2 position with approximately 10% of the finishers, followed by the 10K (7.9%).
