Shalane Flanagan Puts On a Show at Rock 'n' Roll Chicago
CHICAGO (July 20, 2014) - The Windy City didn't live up to its name today, as ideal summertime conditions greeted more than 20,000 entrants for the Rock 'n' Roll Running Festival in Chicago. The event featured two days of running and the first ever Remix Challenge in which runners earned a special medal for completing a race on Saturday and Sunday.
Headlining the festival weekend was America's top female distance runner
Shalane Flanagan, who became the first ever recipient of the Remix Challenge medal by pacing runners at Saturday's 5K and winning Sunday's
Rock 'n' Roll Chicago Half Marathon
presented by HumanVitality on Sunday. The Olympic bronze medalist asserted her dominance over the half-marathon distance, claiming victory with a time of 1 hour, 9 minutes and 45 seconds. It was the second fastest half-marathon run by an American woman this year.
"I came to run the streets of Chicago and today was the first real long effort I've had since the Boston Marathon," said Flanagan, who is the fastest U.S. woman to ever run the Boston course with a 2:22:02 clocking this past April. "What I ran today is basically what I want to run in my fall marathon, my marathon pace of 5:19 a mile. But I think the real highlight of my weekend was being able to mingle and run with the people on Saturday and be a part of the first Remix Challenge. I loved hearing everyone's stories because they are so inspiring and they inspire me to get the most out of myself and out of my training. That was a rare opportunity and I'm really excited that Rock 'n' Roll had multiple races this weekend."

Alemayehu, Hall Win Napa-To-Sonoma Wine Country Half Marathon
SONOMA, Calif. (July 20, 2014) - Tesfaye Alemayehu and Sara Hall won the Napa-to-Sonoma Wine Country Half Marathon presented by Newton. An estimated 9,000 people attended the race and post-race festivities in downtown Sonoma. Produced by Destination Races of Sonoma, Napa-to-Sonoma is the flagship event in the Wine Country Half Marathon Series.
Local native Hall, who graduated from nearby Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa, where she was a standout distance runner, broke the women's course record set in 2011 with a time of 1 hour, 13 minutes, 16 seconds. Alemayehu won his 5th consecutive Napa-to-Sonoma race with a time of 1:03.22.
The race sold out in less than 35 minutes back in November, and the scenic 13.1-mile race started at Cuvasion Carneros Winery and finished at the historic Sonoma Plaza in front of City Hall.

Biwott, Mutai to Headline Rock 'n' Roll Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA - As the site of five World and five American records, the Rock 'n' Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon race is positioned for another historic performance the weekend of September 19-21, 2014. Featuring one of the most decorated half-marathon fields in its 37-year history, the men's competition promises to be one of the fastest races run on American soil this year.
Headlining the field will be two-time defending champion
Stanley Biwott (pictured, right). If the 28-year-old Kenyan can win for the third consecutive year, he would join marathon legends Khalid Khannouchi (3), Joan Benoit Samulson (3) and
Catherine Ndereba (8) as the only three-time champions in the race's 37-year history.
"I'm excited to come back to Philadelphia and try to win a 3rd time in a row," said Biwott. "I know the course really well and my training is going very good. With the great competition, I know there will be some very fast times."

San Francisco Marathon Anticipates Record-Setting Race Day
SAN FRANCISCO - On Sunday, July 27, more than 25,000 runners and thousands of
spectators will take to city streets and landmarks on course for the 37th edition San Francisco Marathon (TSFM). Known as THE original San Francisco race event and the only full and double marathon (52.4 miles) within city limits, TSFM is collaborating with new partners this year to bring exclusive features for a robust race day experience. With the full marathon and both half-marathons already sold out, event organizers also announce exceptionally strong registration numbers for 2014 - a testament to the event's all-inclusive spirit and civic appeal to attract new participants from around the country.
"Our recent efforts to bring San Francisco to the forefront as a world-class, city-brand marathon has resulted in an early surge of sign-ups this year," said Lark Ryan, head of marketing at The San Francisco Marathon. "This is the fastest TSFM has sold out the marathon and half marathons in its history, and we anticipate our 5K race to sell out by race day."
In addition to proactive outreach to new audiences, TSFM organizers have invested in its social media platforms, technology partners, and an ambassador program to capture the unique intersection of marathon running as a sport focused on personal achievement, but with a fervor for community and shared experience.

Keflezighi, Flanagan, True Lead Stellar World-Class Field at Beach to Beacon 10K
CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine - Boston Marathon champ Meb Keflezighi will
join a talented, deep group of American distance runners - including Olympic medalist Shalane Flanagan and Maine native Ben True - for the TD Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race on Aug. 2
in Cape Elizabeth, Maine.
Both of the defending champions - Kenyans Micah Kogo and Joyce Chepkirui - also are returning to headline a 30-runner professional field dotted with Olympians, World Champs and record setters, TD Beach to Beacon organizers announced.
"We put together a solid American contingent last year, but I think this one is even stronger, especially on the women's side, where a number of Americans are capable of sub 33s," said Larry Barthlow, the elite athlete coordinator for the TD Beach to Beacon. "On the men's side, favorite son Ben True is making his return to Maine with his sights set on winning the race and he certainly is more than capable. But there also are a handful of international runners who will have something to say about that. We're set up for another great race day."
Prize money for the winner of the men's and women's races is $10,000.
