Schwanz earns All-MW first team honors

Senior Annemarie Schwanz garnered the second all-conference accolade of her career.
KUNA, Idaho – Fresno State's Annemarie Schwanz led the Bulldogs with a 7th-place finish at the 2016 Mountain Wests Championships at Falcon Crest Golf Club on Friday morning. The senior earned All-Mountain West first team honors for the first time in her career.
As a team, the Fresno State women finished 10th with 276 points, while the men were eighth with 244 points.
For the third time this season, Schwanz was the Bulldogs' top finisher as she clocked a time of 20:40.07. It was her third-fastest time of the season. Schwanz's first team accolade came three years after earning second team honors when she finished 11th.
The Bulldog men were paced by Matt Kwiatkowski who finished with a time of 25:31.60 as he placed 48th.
On the women's side, New Mexico Lobos claimed their ninth consecutive Mountain West championship scoring 42 points with five runners finishing in the top 20. Air was second with 53 points and the field was rounded out by Boise State (86), Colorado State (103), Wyoming (123), Utah State (148), Nevada (193), San Jose State (224), San Diego State (261), Fresno State (276), and UNLV (309). New Mexico finished 1-2 individually as Alice Wright one the race.
Boise State claimed the men's championship on its home course, finishing with 41 points. Colorado State was in second (48), Air Force in third (61), Utah State (131) in fourth, New Mexico (138) in fifth, Wyoming (162) in sixth, San Jose State (169) and Fresno State (244). Boise State's Yusuke Uchikoshi won the individual championship.
The `Dogs will be back in action in two weeks at the NCAA West Regional meet. This year regionals will be held in Sacramento, Calif., at Haggin Oaks GC on Friday, November 11. The women's 6K race is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. and the men's 10K race will follow at 12 p.m.
