Monty Steadman was most recently an assistant coach at West Valley college in Saratoga, California. He has been a certified USA Track & Field Official since 2010. During the 2008 track season, Steadman coached men and women sprinters at Santa Clara University. In 2006–2007, he coached both the men and women middle-distance and distance runners and was the head cross country coach at San Jose City College. From 2004 to 2005, Steadman was the assistant women’s cross country coach and women’s middle-distance and distance coach in track and field.
Steadman taught English and later physical education and coached cross country and track and field at Overfelt High School in San Jose from 1966 until he retired in 2003. He became boys head track and field coach in 1973 and also boys athletic director at that time. Along with other talented coaches, from 1978 to 2003, Steadman co-head coached the combined boys and girls cross country and track and field programs.
Steadman was born and raised in San Jose, California. He is married and has three adult daughters. He attended Bellarmine Prep and then San Jose State University. He participated in cross country and track and field at both institutions. He has a BA and an MA in physical education.
