NEW ORLEANS ---- Fresh off their performances this weekend at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala., the sophomore trio of Isabella Marten, Bethan Knights and Peter Simon were each named All-Americans by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the organization announced Monday.
Marten was named a First Team All-American in the Triple Jump after finishing seventh at Indoors with a leap of 42-11.75 (13.10m). Marten became the first Bear to earn first team honors with a top eight finish at Indoors since 2013 when Deborah Maier finished second in both the 3000 & 5000 Meters.
Knights finished ninth in the 3000 Meters 9:09.79) to earn Second Team All-American honors and claim the third USTFCCCA honor of her career. She was named a Cross Country All-American and a Second Team All-American in the 5000 Meters as a freshman in 2014-15.
In his first NCAA Championships appearance, Simon earned a Second Team All-American nod after finishing 13th in the Shot Put with a toss of 60-3.00 (18.36m).
The newly minted All-Americans will help lead the team in its second meet of outdoor season at the Sacramento State Hornet Invitational (March 18-19).
