Top Americans in EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler Will Receive Bonuses
PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh Three Rivers Marathon, Inc. officials announced that bonuses totaling $5,000 will be awarded to 13 top American finishers in last month's
EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler. The payout is part of the organization's American Development Program launched this year to encourage, support and increase exposure and racing opportunities for emerging USA runners.

"This additional payday reflects our full commitment to assist the next generation of American runners as they start their professional careers, " said Patrice Matamoros, Pittsburgh Three Rivers Marathon, Inc. CEO. "The bonus is a 'thank you' to the American athletes who ran in the inaugural EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler. We look forward to welcoming them and other runners to Pittsburgh throughout 2014 at all of our premier events as part of our American Development Program."

The next premier event on the American Development Program schedule is the DICK'S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon and the UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon set for Sunday, May 4.

Chattanooga, Tenn. has also been designated the 2013
Outstanding Runner Friendly Community. The RRCA will honor Chattanooga with a commemorative award at the upcoming 56th RRCA National Convention.

Bozanich Inducted into American Ultrarunning Hall of Fame

MORRISTOWN, NJ - Frank Bozanich, newly inducted to the
American Ultrarunning Hall of Fame, is one of the most naturally fleet-footed athletes in the history of ultrarunning.

He began as a wrestler and sprinter in high school, and later as a member of the track team at Eastern Washington University ran 10.2 for 100 meters

and sub-50 seconds for the quarter mile. He would later run sub-30 minutes for 10K and 2:25 for the marathon. Prior to becoming an ultrarunner he served for 12 years in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Like last year's Hall of Fame inductee Park Barner, Bozanich moved up to ultras in the early 1970s, when there were barely a few dozen races longer than the marathon in this country. His ultra career focused mainly on the short-range ultras (50K and 50 miles), mostly because it was almost impossible to find races any longer in the mid-70s. The 50K and 50 mile distances were the first ultra distances at which official USA National Championships were ever held, and, eager for top competition, Frank gravitated right to them.

His first ultra was a barnburner, the 1974 USA National 50K Championship in his home state of Washington, where he finished 3rd in 3 hours, 2 minutes, averaging under 6 minutes per mile Two years later he entered his first 50 miler and won it in 5:30. Later that same hear he traveled all the way across the country and won the USA 50 Mile National Championship in New York City, running 5:36.

Over the course of the next five years we would win two more USA 50 Mile titles, running multiple 50 mile times in the 5:15-5:20 range, and ultimately notching a 50 mile best of 5:14:36.

Morse Inducted into Houston Marathon Hall of Fame

HOUSTON - The Houston Marat hon Committee (HMC) announced the election of former member of the HMC Board of Directors Denny Morse into the Houston Marathon Hall of Fame. Morse was honored by the Houston Marathon Committee on December 12 at the 2014 Hall of Fame Reception.

"Denny Morse was the last of the original directors of the Houston Marathon Committee, Inc., dating back to the organization's founding in January of 1982," stated HMC Board President and event Race Director Brant Kotch. "From the beginning, his has been a steady, common-sense and good-natured voice on the Board, and he's been a valuable race day official. The void that we've felt at our Board meetings since he retired in April of this year is going to be even more acutely felt on race weekend."
