Jessica Harper, a 22-year-old first-time marathoner, and
Liza Galvan, the 2004 MetroPCS Dallas Marathon champion, finished in second and third places with times of 2:50:14 and 2:53:20, respectively.

Cheruiyot and Gemechu will each receive $5,000 for winning the 2014 MetroPCS Dallas Marathon.

Soul Focus Sports Acquires Previously Cancelled Across the Bay 12K

SAN FRANCISCO - Across the Bay 12K has not hit the finish line just yet. Today Soul Focus Sports announced the purchase of one of San Francisco's iconic road races from previous owner RhodyCo - effectively saving the event from its planned cancellation.

The race becomes the 415 area code's flagship event in the Represent Running Series of area code-based events. A group of hyper-local Bay Area-based races, the Series reflects the spirit of and works with the local community where each event takes place. Other Series events include The San Jose 408K Race to the Row, and Let's Go 510 - The East Bay's 5K/10K. To better fit with the Represent Running schedule, the new Across the Bay moves to Sunday, April 26th, 2015. Soul Focus will also add a 5K race to the event schedule.

"On the one hand, we're sad to be moving on from our Marin 415K held annually in San Rafael. We had a great experience in the North Bay and hope to work in San Rafael in the future." said J.T. Service, Soul Focus Sports CEO. "However, Across the Bay 12K has a long history in the San Francisco and Bay Area running communities. I've personally run this event and I'm incredibly excited to have the opportunity keep the Across the Bay alive, and see people running over the Golden Gate for another 30 years."

Hudson Inducted to American Ultrarunning Hall of Fame
In the late 1970's the pioneering American trio of Sandy Kiddy, Marcy Schwam, and Sue Ellen Trapp dominated global women's ultra distance racing, setting and re-setting all world records from 50K through 48 hours. The first non-American to rise to their level was
Leslie Watson of Scotland, and she did it in grand fashion, winning the 1980 London-to-Brighton 54+ mile ultra (the first year women were permitted to run officially in what was then generally regarded as the de facto "world championship" of ultrarunning).

But for the first half of that race Watson had to chase down an unheralded American woman. Watson eventually caught the upstart and went on to win, but the American hung on for second place. Her en-route 50 mile split was under 7 hours, making her the 4th fastest American ever for what was then the most popular ultra distance. The second-place finisher's name was Donna Hudson, and despite a world-class ultra career which lasted most of a decade she would continue to be mostly unknown within the American ultrarunning community. She is still virtually unremembered today in American ultra lore. On Dec. 16, she was inducted into the
American Ultrarunning Hall of Fame.

Running USA Announces 2015 Grant Fundraising Campaign

(December 1, 2014) Running USA, the national non-profit trade organization for running events and businesses, announced today that it will seek to raise $50,000 to fund grant awards that support under-funded running programs.

Running USA has a strong history of supporting other non-profit running entities, but CEO Rich Harshbarger explained that this year's fundraising effort is different: adopting a grassroots approach open to donors at all funding levels, Running USA is asking anyone who loves runners and the sport of running to
join them in supporting this great cause.

"Previously, we've held an auction at our annual conference to raise money for these grants, but we realized that such an approach wasn't reaching the huge numbers of contributors who want to support some of running's most underfunded, yet truly exceptional, teams and programs," said Harshbarger. "This approach gives everyone whose life has been touched positively by running the chance to give back to the sport they so enjoy."

The grants that will be supported by the fundraising effort include: The Allan Steinfeld Development award, which supports one elite distance training organization annually, and the Running USA Youth Program of the Year and Youth Event of the Year. In the past, the Allan Steinfeld Award has been $25,000 and the two youth awards have each been $5,000. Dependent on the fundraising results, Running USA hopes to increase the number of grants awarded.
