Drewery Excels in Day Two of USA Youth Outdoors

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Kendal Drewery won the girls’ 11-12 pentathlon to highlight competition on the second day of the USA Youth Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Southern Illinois University on the Edwardsville campus.

The nation’s top young athletes compete in two-year age divisions ranging from 8 and under to 17-18-year-olds.

Fourteen national champions were crowned today, some of the top performances included:

Drewery started her quest for the multi title by dominating the 80 meter hurdles, winning with a time of 13.04. The domination continued in the shot put with a mark of 8.25m/27-01 and the long jump where she soared 5.00m/16-05. She leaped 1.40m/4-07.00 in the high jump, tying with Elizabeth Rupprecht.

In the 11-12 boys’ division 4x800m relay race, the Ultimate Speed Academy lived up to its name rocketing around the track to take the win. Hasani Barr, Jaylen Burdine, Brandon Miller and Lazarus Williams completed the race in 9:14.00. Williams ran the anchor leg in an impressive 2:16.75.

Waukengan Invaders pulled off a skillful come-from-behind victory in the 13-14 boys’ 4x800m relay race. Julian Ruiz, Thomas Mosley, RaShaun Brown and Humberto Villarreal finished in under nine minutes at 8:59.77. On the third leg of the race, Thomas Mosley sped around the track to give the Invaders a lead they would not relinquish.

In the 15-16 boy’s decathlon, Hayden Ashley displayed his all-around talents winning seven of the 10 individual competitions. Ashley amassed 4,660 points to win the multi, only tieing in the shot put with a throw of 9.32m/30-07 and in the. His top performance of the day was in the 400 meter dash, where he finished in 55.96.
