D2: Chico State Ranked #5 Men and #2 Women

DII National Cross Country Rankings – Week 4

October 12, 2011

NEW ORLEANS – On Wednesday, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its week four national team rankings for the 2011 NCAA Division II cross country season. On the men's side, the top nine teams are unchanged from last week with Adams State and Western State still holding strong in the 1-2 positions. Nothing changed to the women's top 12 as Western State and Chico State are still in the top two slots.

AROUND THE POLLS

* Although the top half of the polls on both sides had little change from the previous week, a few nuggets are worth mentioning. On the men's side New Mexico Highlands (No. 20) returns to the poll while No. 25 Missouri Southern is in the top 25 for the first time this year. Harding's women made a huge leap to No. 13, up 11 spots from a week ago. Harding won a DII-stacked meet at Missouri S&T, 71-74, over then-No. 16 Pittsburg State.

* Meets to watch this weekend in the division include the Gettysburg Invite and the Penn State National where a handful of ranked teams will be on hand. Women's No. 4 Grand Valley State will be at Penn State while No. 9 Shippensburg headlines the Gettysburg meet.

* Next week (weekend of October 22) will be full of Division II conference championships. Stay tuned.

The NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, November 19, in Spokane, Wash. NCAA Regional Championships will be held two weeks prior on the weekend of November 5.
