Kalyah Williams (Lakewood) won the Bantam Girls' high jump

Day 4 of Youth Champs highlighted by returning stars and repeat champions LISLE, Ill. - Field events highlighted the competition once again on day four of the 2010 USA Youth Outdoor Championships at The Sports Complex at Benedictine University. Preliminary heats for several running events added to the full day of competition.


Field Events


Laque Moen- Davis (Midwest Striders, Omaha, Neb.) claimed her second win this meet with a first-place finish in the Young Women's triple jump (12.03m/39-5.75) after winning the long jump Thursday. Middle Georgia Magic's Anasterasia Terrell (Macon, Ga.) also won her second event in the Intermediate Girls' division with a winning long jump of 5.44m/7-10.25. She also won the triple jump Thursday.


Also winning a second event was Long Beach Sprinters' Kalyah Williams (Lakewood, Calif.) who won the Bantam Girls' high jump (1.30m/4-3.25) after taking first in the triathlon Wednesday.

Katelan Gochenour (Cornhusker Flyers, Logan, Iowa) improved on her second-place finish at the 2009 Youth Championships as she won the Midget Girls' javelin with a toss of 37.31m/122-5. Gochenour's throw was 9.3m/30-6 further than Sophia Rivera (Webster RockHill Rockets, Brentwood, Mo.) who finished second with 28.01m/91-11.

Durham Striders' Dyron Jones (Durham, N.C.) also improved from his fourth place from last year with a 13.2m/43-3.75 winning jump in the Intermediate Boys' division, and Gabe Hull (Bloomington, Ind.), who won the Young Men's discus throw yesterday, had the top finish in the shot put with a throw of 18.62m/61-1.25.


Running

Prelims were completed for the 100m, 400m, 1,500m and the 4x100m relays. The top eight finishers from each event will compete in the finals which will be Saturday for the 4x100m relays and Sunday for the 100m, 400m and 1,500m.

Runners who had the fastest times in the 100m and 400m in today's prelims were Mercury's Jordan Howden (San Diego, Calif.) who ran a 13.38 and 1:03.32 for the Bantam Boys; Lynna Irby (Indiana Storm, Indianapolis, Ind.) who had a 12.93 and 58.43 in the Midget Girls; Youth Girls' Brittny Ellis (Illinois Elite, Waukegan, Ill.) with times of 12.35 and 56.14; and Young Men's Brandon Addison (Firebirds, Germantown, Md.) who finished in 10.86 and 48.84.Kamal Koroso (Young Achievers Sprint Club, Jacksonville, Fla.), who won the Intermediate Boys' 3,000m on Thursday, had the top time in the 1,500m over Sidgie Green ( Metropolis) who won the 2,000m steeplechase on Tuesday.
