Wright named Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - University of Tennessee senior Phoebe Wright has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after running on three winning relays last week at the Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa.

A two-time NCAA Distance Medley Relay (DMR) champion, Wright ran third-leg on the DMR and anchored the 4x800 and 4x1500 to help UT's women win the distance triple at the Penn Relays for the second straight season.

On Thursday, Wright's 800m leg of the DMR put Tennessee into the lead with a 2:02.12 clocking that was four seconds faster than any other runner. They finished in 10:54.65 and won by more than eight seconds. On Friday, she anchored the 4x1500m to a winning 17:14.91, splitting 4:17.3 in the process. And on Saturday, she anchored the 4x800m to glory in 8:18.22, running the fastest women's 800m split in Penn Relays history, covering her two laps in 2:00.89.

Now in its ninth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
