February 5, 2014

NEW ORLEANS – Familiar faces fill out on the February edition of the men’s Watch List for The Bowerman – collegiate track & field’s highest individual honor – as all but one of the preseason members returned to Wednesday’s list released by The Bowerman Watch List Committee.

Arizona high jumper Nick Ross was promoted from "also receiving votes" status to the 10-member Watch List for the first time in his career, trading places with Florida long jumper Marquis Dendy.

The February women’s Watch List for The Bowerman will be announced Thursday afternoon.

In his first collegiate indoor campaign since his 2012 indoor high jump title, Ross has performed historically well. His collegiate-leading leap of 7-7 (2.31m) equaled the 10th-best mark on the all-time indoor collegiate performers list and made him one of just three men to clear a height of 7-7 or better in the month of January.

He joined Mark Boswell of Texas in 2000 and Franklin Jacobs of Fairleigh Dickinson in 1978 on that list – which is notably absent of 2013 men’s The Bowerman winner Derek Drouin of Indiana.

Ross joins Arizona teammate – and 2013 The Bowerman Finalist – Lawi Lalang on the Watch List. While Ross is a first-time Watch List member, Lalang is the active leader in career appearances with 18, just one behind Florida’s Jeff Demps’ 19.

Fellow 2013 Finalist Julian Wruck of UCLA is next on the active list with six appearances.

The state of Texas remained well represented with Texas’ Ryan Crouser and Johannes Hock both making their fourth career appearances on the Watch List; Texas A&M’s Deon Lendore and Wayne Davis II appearing for the third and second times, respectively; and UTEP’s Anthony Rotich.

Florida’s Arman Hall and Ole Miss’ Sam Kendricks rounded out the Watch List, giving the SEC four of the ten members of the Watch List, in addition to three who also received votes in Dendy, Texas A&M’s Prezel Hardy, Jr., and Mississippi’s Ricky Robertson.

Hall’s inclusion improved Florida’s total program appearances to 60, more than three times the total of second-place Arizona’s 19.

Michael Stigler of Kansas and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi of Purdue also received votes.

Speaking of conferences, the SEC’s all-time total Watch List inclusions total grew to 111, ahead of the Pac-12′s 75 and the Big 12′s 55.

Biographies for each of the members of the Watch List can be found here.
