NAU Final Results
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The UCLA track and field team concluded its opening weekend of competition with five more wins Saturday at the NAU Invitational inside the Walkup Skydome.
“We had an excellent showing with the group that we brought,” UCLA director of track and field, Mike Maynard said. “You don’t know what to expect in the first competition but the big thing is to get the cobwebs out and rolling in the right direction. We had an excellent meet overall.”
Kelsey Smith started off her track season just like she finished her cross country campaign – in impressive fashion – as she won the mile with a time of 4:52.63. The Bruins placed five in the top-10 in the first women’s race of the final day of competition.
In her UCLA debut, Sweden native Caroline Gyllenbern cleared 5-10 to tie for first in the high jump. The Bruins had three of the top-6 marks in the event.
Ida Storm placed second overall and first against NCAA competition with a mark of 63-10 in the weight throw. Jaycee Olsen finished ninth with a throw of 47-3.
In the 800m Ava Kent placed second with a 2:17.93. Alimatu-Sadia Ibrahim finished eighth with a time of 2:28.03.
UCLA mainly brought distance runners and field athletes to the invitational due to the impact of the new Mondo surface that was placed into Drake Stadium.
“No one on this team is complaining one bit and is very pleased with the state of the art surface but it has impacted everyone, but most notably the sprinters,” Maynard said.” Going from no track to an indoor track, the transition is pretty big but they were fantastic. To get this result in the face of some adversity was a great sign.”
In the men’s competition All-American Mike Woepse got his season started with a win in the pole vault. Woepse cleared 17-8.50 while Mark Sakioka cleared 15-1 to place tied for seventh.
Nick Hartle won his second event in as many days as the sophomore took home top honors in the 800m with a time of 1:50.26. Ferdinand Edman placed fifth (1:55.05) while Philip Kostelnik finished 12th (1:58.18).
In his first competition in a UCLA uniform, Austin Hazel won the long jump with a mark of 23-9. Zachary Thomas placed 10th with a jump of 21-4.75.
In the shot put, Nicholas Scarvelis placed fourth with a 61-2.75 (18.66m), while newcomer Braheme Days uncorked a 60-3 (18.36m) to place sixth. Marcus Nilsson finished 14th with a 49-5.50 (15.07m).
“Our newcomers showed their quality this weekend,” Maynard added. “They have shown that they can add to the team and step in and be an impact for the program.”
The high jump also featured some young Bruin talent as Cody Crampton finished second with a 7-0.25 (2.14m). Cameron Spencer followed in third with a leap of 6-11 (2.11m). Alex Maraks placed ninth with a 6-2.75 (1.90m).
The team will be split next weekend as the Bruins head to the New Mexico Team Invitational and the UW Invitational. Albuquerque will serve as the site host site for the NCAA Indoor Championships while the UW Invitational will be held in Seattle, Wash.

Running USA 2014 Celebrates, Supports the Sport at Hall of Champions Dinner & Auction
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - (February 5, 2014) - One of the Running USA 2014 powered by ACT IVE Network conference highlights will again be the Hall of Champions Dinner & Auction presented by Competitor Group. The event is slated for Monday evening, February 10 at the Marriott Marquis & Marina in San Diego, California. The banquet will induct the 11th class of Running USA's Hall of Champions that recognizes individuals who have made important and noteworthy contributions to the sport of running. Last year's honorees were running pioneers Ted Corbitt and Nina Kuscsik.
In addition, at the sold-out 11th Industry Conference dinner, Running USA will announce the 5th Allan Steinfeld Development Award winner. The annual $25,000 grant from the auction proceeds goes to a top U.S. training group. Established U.S. distance training centers were invited to apply for the 2014 grant, and from seven finalists (American Distance Project, Club Northwest, Mammoth Track Club,
New Jersey-New York Track Club, Team RunFan, Team Rogue and Team USA Minnesota), Running USA will announce and present the selected team.
"Our attendees enjoy the Hall of Champions Dinner & Auction as there is buzz in the air as the inductees are honored and celebrated as well as the winning training group introduced and feted," said Kevin Callahan, Running USA President. "The lively auction adds to the evening's festivities and helps support our programs."
At Running USA 2010, the inaugural development
award was announced and named after Allan Steinfeld, a long-time leader in the sport, who jump-started the U.S. distance running resurgence when as head of the New York Road Runners he allocated $20,000 seed money ($1 per U.S. entry at the 2000 New York City Marathon) for the development program Team USA Distance Running launched in November 2000 that produced top training groups such as
Team Running USA (two Olympic medals in 2004 and major marathon wins) and inspired others to be established. In February 2010,
Team USA Minnesota was selected as the inaugural award winner; in February 2011, Team USA Arizona, the second recipient of the award; in January 2012, Mammoth Track Club, the third recipient and last February ZAP Fitness received the annual grant.New this year at the Hall of Champions Dinner will be a "Runners Roast" featuring inaugural roast recipient
Bart Yasso, Runner's World's Chief Running Officer and Running USA Hall of Champions member (2007).

The Bowerman Men's Watch List for February Adds Arizona's Nick Ross
February 5, 2014
NEW ORLEANS – Familiar faces fill out on the February edition of the men’s Watch List for The Bowerman – collegiate track & field’s highest individual honor – as all but one of the preseason members returned to Wednesday’s list released by The Bowerman Watch List Committee.
Arizona high jumper Nick Ross was promoted from "also receiving votes" status to the 10-member Watch List for the first time in his career, trading places with Florida long jumper Marquis Dendy.
The February women’s Watch List for The Bowerman will be announced Thursday afternoon.

NAME YEAR SCHOOL EVENTS HOMETOWN
Ryan Crouser JR Texas Throws Gresham, Ore.
Wayne Davis II SR Texas A&M Hurdles Raleigh, N.C.
Arman Hall SO Florida Sprints Pembroke Pines, Fla.
Johannes Hock SO Texas Combined Events Cologne, Germany
Sam Kendricks JR Mississippi Pole Vault Oxford, Miss.

Julian Wruck RS SR UCLA Throws Brisbane, Australia
Also Receiving Votes: Marquis Dendy (Florida); Michael Stigler (Kansas); Chukwuebuka Enekwechi (Purdue); Prezel Hardy, Jr. (Texas A&M); Ricky Robertson (Mississippi)
In his first collegiate indoor campaign since his 2012 indoor high jump title, Ross has performed historically well. His collegiate-leading leap of 7-7 (2.31m) equaled the 10th-best mark on the all-time indoor collegiate performers list and made him one of just three men to clear a height of 7-7 or better in the month of January.
He joined Mark Boswell of Texas in 2000 and Franklin Jacobs of Fairleigh Dickinson in 1978 on that list – which is notably absent of 2013 men’s The Bowerman winner Derek Drouin of Indiana.
Ross joins Arizona teammate – and 2013 The Bowerman Finalist – Lawi Lalang on the Watch List. While Ross is a first-time Watch List member, Lalang is the active leader in career appearances with 18, just one behind Florida’s Jeff Demps’ 19.
Fellow 2013 Finalist Julian Wruck of UCLA is next on the active list with six appearances.
The state of Texas remained well represented with Texas’ Ryan Crouser and Johannes Hock both making their fourth career appearances on the Watch List; Texas A&M’s Deon Lendore and Wayne Davis II appearing for the third and second times, respectively; and UTEP’s Anthony Rotich.
Florida’s Arman Hall and Ole Miss’ Sam Kendricks rounded out the Watch List, giving the SEC four of the ten members of the Watch List, in addition to three who also received votes in Dendy, Texas A&M’s Prezel Hardy, Jr., and Mississippi’s Ricky Robertson.
Hall’s inclusion improved Florida’s total program appearances to 60, more than three times the total of second-place Arizona’s 19.
Michael Stigler of Kansas and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi of Purdue also received votes.
Speaking of conferences, the SEC’s all-time total Watch List inclusions total grew to 111, ahead of the Pac-12′s 75 and the Big 12′s 55.
Biographies for each of the members of the Watch List can be found here.

Four nation-leading marks and a total 14 scored season-best performances this weekend at the Penn State National lifted Saint Augustine’s back to the No. 1 spot it held in the preseason, while Adams State dropped to No. 2.
The Division-leading marks by Joshua Edmonds (400 meters), Mousa Dembele (60-meter hurdles), the 4×400 relay and DeJon Wilkinson (triple jump), along with the 10 other season-best marks, improved the Falcons’ team rankings score by 39.89 points to 237.31.
Adams State, which defeated RMAC rival Western State in a dual, improved its team rankings score by just 2.4 points to 213.32.

No. 3 Ashland (153.06) held its position for the third consecutive edition of the rankings.
Three-time defending National Athlete of the Week Christopher Reed’s Minnesota State men (137.30) improved one spot to No. 4. Reed remained No. 1 in the shot put, but the biggest impact on the team’s ranking was second-ranked heptathlete Nathan Hancock in his 2014 multi-event debut.
Grand Valley State (111.49) fell a spot to No. 5 to round out the top five.
Missouri Southern (91.55) improved six spots to No. 6, while Pittsburg State (75.38) jumped three to No. 7 and Southern Indiana (73.01) soared 12 spots to No. 8.
MSSU is in the top 10 for the first time since the beginning of the USTFCCCA rankings in 2010.
No. 9 Southwest Baptist (70.64) fell three spots from a week ago, while No. 10 Texas A&M-Kingsville (69.36) returned to the top 10 after falling completely out of the rankings last week without any 2014 marks to score.

Women’s No. 1 Lincoln (Mo.) scored a dual-meet win over No. 2 Grand Valley State, 141-132, at GVSU to headline this past weekend’s action, but even with the win the Blue Tigers saw their lead over the Lakers in the rankings slip to just seven team rankings points.
Both squads saw their team rankings scores decrease with action going on elsewhere around the nation, with Lincoln falling 28.29 points to a team rankings score of 184.10 and GVSU with a less-severe 17.67-point decline to 177.69.
Where Lincoln and GVSU fell, No. 3 Adams State rose and is now within 13 points of the Blue Tigers and six of the Lakers after a 18.75-point improvement to 171.90. Already the second-ranked sprinter at 400 meters, Kayon Robinson added the Division’s second-fastest 200 meters time to resume to boost the Grizzlies.
Ashland remained No. 4, but suffered a 28.52-point decrease to its team rankings score, which settled at 121.03.
National Athlete of the Week Danielle Williams of No. 5 Johnson C. Smith posted Division-leading times at both 200 meters and in the 60-meter hurdles – as well as a leg of the third-ranked 4×400 relay – to lead her Golden Bulls to a team rankings score of 116.52, up 36.58 from a week ago.
No. 6 New Mexico Highlands (65.89) moved up a spot from last week, while No. 7 Angelo State (64.36) improved 21 positions, No. 8 Southwest Baptist (60.23) went up 17 spots, No. 9 Metro State (58.41) jumped 26 notches, and No. 10 Minnesota Duluth increased its rank by nine slots.
All of the aforementioned teams between No. 6 and No. 10 either set or tied their best rank since the beginning of the USTFCCCA rankings in 2010.
National Team Computer Rankings will be complied by mathematical formulae based on national descending order lists.
However, only marks from the current season will be used in subsequent rankings.
The purpose and methodology of the rankings is to create an index that showcases the teams that have the best potential of achieving the top spots in the national team race. Rankings points do not equate with NCAA Championships team points. A full description of the rankings can be found here.
USTFCCCA National Team Computer Rankings should not be referred to as a "poll” as no voting occurs during the process.

Chase for No. 1 in Division I National Team Rankings is Heating Up
February 4, 2014
NEW ORLEANS – Four-time defending NCAA Division I women’s indoor champion Oregon and defending men’s champion Arkansas remained atop the second regular-season edition of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Team Computer Rankings released Tuesday, but both are beginning to come back to the pack.

The decisive favorite in the preseason with a 53-point margin over No. 2 Florida in terms of team rankings score, Arkansas’ (218.59) advantage over the Gators (184.31) has shrunk to less than 35 points with No. 3 Oregon (170.81) also within 50 points.
Despite finishing only third at the Arkansas Razorback Team Invitational, the Florida men’s rankings score improved more than 10 points from a week ago thanks largely to a pair of 800-meter runners in sophomore No. 2 Ryan Schnulle and first-year man No. 6 Andres Arroyo.

Oregon’s distance medley relay teams were the only Ducks in action this past weekend, but its squad – featuring defending outdoor 1500 meters champ Mac Fleet, 800-meters preseason No. 2 Boru Guyota, Jack Galpin, and first-year cross country champ/The Bowerman Watch List member Edward Cheserek – posted the second-fastest time of the season to boost Oregon’s team score by 15 points.
Led by National Athlete of the Week Deon Lendore, Texas A&M (117.88) moved up a spot to No. 4, displacing Wisconsin (112.92) to No. 5.
No. 6 Florida State, No. 7 Penn State, No. 8 Arizona and No. 9 Nebraska all remained stationary, joined in the top 10 by new addition Alabama. The Crimson Tide jumped seven positions from a week ago behind seventh-ranked 60-meter sprinter Diondre Batson and eighth-ranked weight thrower Charodd Richardson.
Meanwhile on the women’s side Oregon (176.23) retained the top spot it seized last week, though the inactive Ducks lost some of their advantage over preseason favorite No. 2 Texas (161.17) and No. 3 Texas A&M (151.97).

No. 4 Florida (140.93) was the only team in the top five to improve upon its rankings team score, albeit a slim 0.22 increase. Georgia (124.31) remained steady at No. 5 to round out the top five.
A win at its home Razorback Team Invitational over No. 3 Texas A&M boosted Arkansas (117.16) up one spot to No. 6, largely due to third-ranked Regine Williams at 200 meters, the mile duo of No. 2 Grace Heymsfield and No. 3 Dominique Scott, and No. 8 pentathlete Alex Gochenour.
Behind the fourth-fastest indoor distance medley relay team in collegiate history – anchored by Justine Fedronic, who is No. 2 nationally at 800 meters – Stanford’s women (97.23) jumped two spots to No. 7.
No. 8 Kentucky fell two spots form a week ago to make room for Arkansas and Stanford, while No. 9 LSU checked in one spot lower than last week.
Rounding out the top-10 was UCLA, which improved 24 positions from a week ago. Led by top-ranked long jumper Kylie Price and 3000-meter runner Kelsey Smith, and No. 7 weight thrower Ida Storm, the Bruins improved their team rankings score by more than 35 points for their first appearance in the top-10 since the USTFCCCA rankings began in 2008.
Other big gainers this week included the No. 20 Penn State women, up 27 positions from a week ago, and a 20-position increase for the No. 19 Notre Dame men.
The national team rankings will be complied by mathematical formulae based on national descending order lists and data taken from previous seasons. For the preseason ranking and early-season rankings, data will be taken from previous seasons as well as the current season.
The purpose and methodology of the rankings is to create an index that showcases the teams that have the best potential of achieving the top spots in the national team race. Rankings points do not equate with NCAA Championships team points. A full description of the rankings can be found here.
The USTFCCCA National Team Computer Rankings should not be referred to as a "poll” as no voting occurs during the process.

Historic Division II Shot Putters Headline National Athletes of the Week
Historic Division II Shot Putters Headline National Athletes of the Week
February 3, 2014
NEW ORLEANS – Another win, another Division II indoor shot put record and a third consecutive National Athlete of the Week award: just another weekend for Minnesota State’s Christopher Reed.
Only this time, he has to share the national honor for Division II. With another shot putter, of all people, asPaul Davis of McMurry is hot on his heels for the all-time top mark in Division II indoor history.
Reed’s winning throw of 65-10¼ (20.07m) at the MSU Mankato Open extended his division record from last weekend by about eight inches, while Davis’ 65-3¼ (19.89m) in winning the Texas Tech Masked Rider Open – over 2013 DI indoor shot put runner-up Kole Weldon of Texas Tech, no less – was a two-and-a-half foot improvement from last week to boost him to No. 2 all-time indoors in DII.
Unfortunately this rivalry can only extend through the regular season, as McMurry is currently ineligible for postseason competition as a transitional Division II program. It announced this past Friday it will return to Division III.
Reed and Davis weren’t the only two rewriting the record books.
Sami Spenner of Nebraska-Omaha – also ineligible for postseason competition as a transitional Division I program – earned the Division I women’s honor with a historic 4406 in the pentathlon at Northern Iowa. The score makes her the sixth woman in collegiate history to post a score surpassing 4400, and just the third American collegian to do so.
Deon Lendore of Texas A&M garnered the Division I men’s honor with a 45.47 over 400 meters to defeat the next two fastest runners in the nation entering the weekend, along with a furious 44.57 anchor leg of the 4×400 to attempt to bring the Aggies back for the win.
Danielle Williams of Johnson C. Smith earned Division II’s women’s honor with Division-leading wins at 200 meters and in the 60-meter hurdles at a very competitive Penn State National.
In what turned out to be a banner weekend for the women’s indoor pentathlon, Amelia Campbell of Carletonjumped to No. 3 on the all-time indoor performers list in Division III to earn National Athlete of the Week over another pair of pentathletes who joined the all-time top-10.
Division III’s men’s honor went to Mount Union thrower Sean Donnelly, who etched his name into the Division III record books as the No. 5 weight thrower in Division history.
Full info on each of the winners’ weekends can be found below.
National Athletes of the Week are announced each Monday throughout the season, with male and female awards for all three NCAA Divisions. Nominations are open to the public and can be completed here.
DIVISION I MEN
Deon Lendore, Texas A&M
Junior | Sprints
Arima, Trinidad and Tobago | Queen’s Royal College
School Bio | TFRRS Profile
For the second consecutive week Lendore posted a collegiate- and world-leading time over 400 meters, this time in 45.47 by defeating rival The Bowerman Watch List member Arman Hall of Florida and a slew of other national contenders at the Arkansas Razorback Team Invitational.
He edged Hall by .16 of a second and topped fifth-ranked James Harris of Florida State, sixth-ranked teammate Aldrich Bailey, Jr., and eighth ranked Neil Braddy of Arkansas.
His two races at 400 meters this season both rank among the three fastest times in the collegiate ranks.
He was back in action for the 4×400 meter relay, and though his Aggies finished third it was by fault of Lendore, who clocked a blistering 44.57 on the final leg. According to Texas A&M, it is the fourth-fastest relay split ever recorded indoors by either a professional or collegian.
Honorable Mention:
Arman Hall, Florida – Though he finished runner-up to Lendore at 400, he recorded the second-fastest time by a collegian in 2014 in 45.63 and anchored the Gators’ 4×400 meter relay team to a collegiate-leading 3:04.46. He also defeated collegiate leader Prezel Hardy, Jr., of Texas A&M at 200 meters in 20.71, which ranks second among collegians in 2014.
Chukwuebuka Enekwichi, Purdue – Continued a dominant weight throw season with a winning toss of 77-6 (23.62m) at Findlay to move to No. 9 on the all-time collegiate performer list. Four of his six throws were better than the No. 2 collegian’s best mark in 2014.
Penn State Distance Medley Relay Team – The quartet of Brandon Kidder, Brandon Bennett-Green, Za’Von Watkins and Robby Creese ran 9:26.59 on their home track for the second-fastest time in collegiate history, beating Stanford’s No. 4 all-time mark of 9:28.95.

DIVISION I WOMEN
Sami Spenner, Nebraska-Omaha
Senior | Multi-Events
Columbus, Neb. | Scotus Central Catholic HS/Wayne State (Neb.)
School Bio | TFRRS Profile
Though Spenner’s name won’t show up atop the indoor pentathlon national descending order list – her Nebraska Omaha program is ineligible for NCAA championship competition as a transitional Division I team – it will show up on the all-time collegiate top-10 performers list at No. 6 after her 4406 score at the Northern Iowa Jack Jennett Invitational this past weekend.
The score – better than any other collegians’ this season – makes her just the sixth collegiate woman to surpass 4400 points, and the third American collegian to do so.
Not only did she win the overall pentathlon by more than 500 points, she won four of the five individual components in addition to a runner-up finish in the 60-meter hurdles. Her long jump mark of 20-9 (6.32m) ranks sixth among all collegians in 2014, and was one of the four individual component personal-bests she set on the day.
She also won the triple jump with a mark of 40-6¼ (12.35m).
Honorable Mention:
Justine Fedronic, Stanford – Ran an indoor personal-best 2:03.25 over 800 meters at Penn State for the nation’s No. 2 time, in addition to anchoring the Stanford distance medley relay team to the third-fastest time in collegiate history in 10:54.04 with a 4:33 split on the 1600-meter leg.
Jasmin Stowers, LSU – Won the 60-meter hurdles at altitude in New Mexico in 7.99 for the second-fastest time among collegians in 2014.
Kylie Price, UCLA – Jumped a collegiate-leading 21-2 (6.45m) in the long jump for her 2014 debut, bettering her previous indoor personal record.
Ciarra Brewer, Florida – Won the triple jump at the Arkansas Razorback Team Invitational with a mark of 44-5½ (13.55m) to defeat the No. 2 and No. 3 collegians in 2014.
DIVISION II MEN
Christopher Reed, Minnesota State
Senior | Throws
Omaha, Neb. | Central HS
School Bio | TFRRS Profile
Paul Davis
Senior | Throws
Lubbock, Texas | Coronado HS
School Bio | TFRRS Profile
Reed is the first individual to win three consecutive National Athlete of the Week nods in a row, regardless of division, since the award began last January. His winning mark of 65-10¼ (20.07m) at the MSU Mankato Open improved his Division II record by about eight inches and made him the lone man in Division II indoor history to surpass 20 meters. He is the fourth man in Division II history to accomplish that feat either indoors or outdoors.
He also won the weight throw with a mark of 62-8½ (19.11m).
Splitting the award with him was McMurry’s Paul Davis, another shot putter who tossed his way to No. 2 on the all-time indoor Division II list with a winning mark of 65-3¼ (19.89m) at the Texas Tech Masked Rider Open. He defeated 2013 NCAA Division I indoor shot put runner-up Kole Weldon of Texas Tech by nearly two meters along the way.
Indoor shot put record holder Reed and outdoor shot put record holder Davis may be the top two on the descending order list for Division II, but their rivalry will unfortunately not culminate in a showdown at the NCAA Championships as McMurry is ineligible as a transitional Division II member.
Reed is fifth among all collegians in 2014, while Davis is seventh.
Honorable Mention:
Keenan Soles, Pittsburg State – Won the long jump at the Missouri Southern Lion Invitational with Division-leading mark of 25-8 (7.82m) to jump to No. 8 on the all-time DII indoor performers list.
DeJon Wilkinson, Saint Augustine’s – Won the triple jump at the Penn State National with a DII-leading 52-6½ (16.01m) to tie No. 10 on the all-time Division II performers list.
Nathan Hancock, Minnesota State – Scored a 2014 DII-best 5371 points to win the heptathlon at the MSU Mankato Open and move to No. 8 on the all-time DII indoor performers list.
DIVISION II WOMEN
Danielle Williams, Johnson C. Smith
Senior | Sprints/Hurdles
St. Andrew, Jamaica
School Bio | TFRRS Profile
The Penn State National was deemed by the USTFCCCA a Division I meet to watch last week, but it was a Division II student-athlete in Williams who took center stage in the sprints and hurdles.
First came three rounds of the 60-meter hurdles on Friday. She navigated through the prelims and semifinals with the sixth- and fourth-fastest times, respectively, but she saved her best for last. She ran 8.14 in the final to edge out professional sister Shermaine by just .01 to record 2014′s fastest time in Division II.
Her times of 8.25 in the prelims and 8.20 in the semifinals were both Division-leading times when she ran them.
The following day she ran the second of two sections of the 200 meters, claiming the overall win in a Division II-leading 23.53, and also as a leg of the Golden Bulls’ fifth-place 4×400 relay team. Johnson C. Smith is the third-fastest program on the qualifying list.
Among all collegians Williams currently ranks seventh in the 60-meter hurdles and tied for ninth at 200 meters with three other women.
Honorable Mention:
Yanique Ellington, Lincoln (Mo.) – Won both the 60 meters and 200 meters at the GVSU Five-Way to help No. 1 Lincoln defeat No. 2 Grand Valley State, 141-132.
Jessica Bridenthal, Ashland – Threw a Division II-leading 67-8 (20.62m) in the weight throw at the Findlay Open in a third-place finish in the elite section and finished sixth in the shot put elite
DIVISION III MEN
Sean Donnelly, Mount Union
Junior | Throws
Willoughby, Ohio | Willoughby South HS
School Bio | TFRRS Profile
Donnelly did double-duty this past weekend, competing Friday in the elite weight throw section at Findlay before returning to his full team and helping his No. 3 Mount Union men to the team title at the OAC North Split meet the following day.
As the only Division III competitor in the field at Findlay, he finished sixth with a throw of 66-2½ (20.18m) to join the all-time top-10 performers list for Division II at No. 5. He is just the fifth DIII man to surpass 66 feet.
He nearly did it again at Saturday’s OAC meet, winning the weight throw with a mark of 65-1½ (19.84m) in addition to claiming the shot put title with a personal-best mark of 57-1½ (17.41m). He is currently No. 2 on the Division III shot put list in 2014.
Honorable Mention:
Rick Valcin, Dubuque – Not only did he record Division III’s top pole vault mark of 2014 with a 16-6 (5.03m) clearance at the Cornell College Hilltop Invitational, he also finished third at 60 meters in 7.04 and is currently in the top-25 on the 2014 DIII list in that event.
Eric Larson, Central (Iowa) – Won the heptathlon at the Wartburg Select with a Division III-leading score of 5271, just six points shy of his 2013 NCAA-title-winning score.
Bruce Gray, Greenville – Won the 60 meters at Illinois Wesleyan in a DIII-best 6.80 – just shy of the all-time top-10 in that event – and also won the 200 in 22.39, converted to 22.00 for qualifying because of track size
DIVISION III WOMEN
Ameila Campbell, Carleton
Sophomore | Multi-Events
Sturgeon Bay, Wis. | Sturgeon Bay HS
School Bio | TFRRS Profile
Campbell was the lone Division III competitor in the indoor pentathlon at the MSU Mankato Open, but in the end that didn’t matter much as she won the event by more than 100 points with a score of 3671. The score not only gives her the Division III lead in 2014, but also places her at No. 3 on the all-time performers list for Division III.
Her first pentathlon of the 2014 season improved her personal record by more than 400 points, as she set two individual component personal records in the high jump and the 800 meters, and was .01 from 60-meter hurdles PR.
She recorded the fastest time at 800 meters and was in the top four in all other events.
Her high jump mark of 5-5¼ (1.66m) was good for a tied at 12th on the 2014 DIII list, and she is currently tied at No. 21 on the long jump list in DIII. She is also No. 10 on the 60-meters hurdles list from earlier this season.
Honorable Mention:
Jana Hieber, Tufts – Won the Tufts Stampede pentathlon with a score of 3622 for the fifth spot on the all-time Division III performers list.
Charity Arn, George Fox – Scored 3547 to finish third in the pentathlon at the Ed Jacoby Invitational for the No. 7 spot on Division III’s all-time performer list.
