Loaded Fields Set for 2014 Chevron Houston Marathon

HOUSTON - The 42nd edition of the Chevron Houston Marathon Race Weekend features stacked fields in both the
Chevron Houston Marathon and the
Aramco Houston Half Marathon, which plays host to the USA Half Marathon Championships on Sunday, January 19.

"Our Elite Athlete Committee has done its homework, as always, to produce a field that has the potential to rewrite our race record book," said Chevron Houston Marathon Race Director Brant Kotch. "A number of top finishers from last year's weather-challenged races will get another chance to show us their best, but they will have to prove their fitness against some talented newcomers. The four deep fields should be propelled to some great times on our new and even faster course."

Defending champion Bazu Worku of Ethiopia, who set a personal best 2 hours, 5 minutes, 25 seconds when he finished third at the 2010 Paris Marathon, leads the field in the men's Chevron Houston Marathon. Out to challenge him on race day will be 2012 Chevron Houston Marathon runner-up Debebe Tolossa. Ethiopians Dadi Yami and Gebretsadik Adhana, who have run sub 2:06 and 2:07 respectively,

and Getachew Negari Terfa will also be in the field.

Costa Wins Rivalry Race at Walt Disney World Marathon

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Jan. 12, 2014 ) - The friendly rivalry between Brazilian runners Fredison Costa and Adriano Bastos took another dramatic twist Sunday when Costa upstaged the defending champion Bastos to win the Walt Disney World Marathon presented by Cigna.

After relinquishing the Disney Marathon title to Bastos last year, Costa reclaimed the crown, his third in the past four years and the 10th straight for Brazilian runners who said they worked together Sunday to help Costa win.

Bastos, who had won eight previous Disney Marathons, said he injured his left leg during an October race which slowed his training, leaving him unable to seriously challenge Costa this time. Costa, 36, sprinted the 26.2 miles through the four Disney theme parks, the Disney Speedway and the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in 2 hours, 21 minutes, 39 seconds. Bastos, 35, was second at 2:22:55 and Alfredo Arevalo
of Guatemala was third at 2:23:19.

Angela Brito of Ecuador came to Disney World for the first time to win the women's division and easily checked that off her bucket list. She crossed the line in 2:47:44, nearly seven minutes ahead of second-place finisher Brittney Christianson
of Minot, ND.
