Coach Spotlight - Pete Boudreaux (Catholic High School, Baton Rouge, Louisiana)

Last year, the boys of Catholic High School's track team in Baton Rouge, Louisiana knew the drill when Coach Pete Boudreaux prescribed a day of supplemental training. They pulled out the tires, ropes and homemade belts from storage, strapped them on, and sprinted across the fields to build their strength and power. Fast forward to the 2011 track season, where the same boys are using top-of-the-line strength training equipment from Gill Athletics, and it is easy to see why Boudreaux compared the delivery of new equipment to Christmas morning.

Boudreaux was nominated by the father of one of his athletes for the 2010 Gill Coach of the Year Award and advanced not only as a regional finalist, but won the overall national honor. In addition to a trip to the 2010 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, Boudreaux won $5,000 worth of Gill equipment for his high school.

"We were able to purchase items for our team that had been on our wish list every year," said Boudreaux. "They were things we wanted, but not necessities like uniforms, so we kept putting them off until the next year."

While Boudreaux's team has benefited from the equipment, it's not the new field implements, training devices or performance indicators that make his team first class; it is the passion and expertise that Boudreaux brings to his team every day. During his 45-year tenure at CHS, Boudreaux has lead his teams to 34 state titles, has been named the Louisiana Coach of the year 14 times and has filled every educational position from guidance counselor to athletic director.

"I love coaching and working with young people. I never in my wildest imagination had a goal to win an award like this," Boudreaux said. "I was touched that someone took the time to nominate me. It was more than I ever imagined."
