I was part of the announcing team along with Tim O'Rourke (El Monte), Peter Jensen (San Jose), and Ken Reeves (Ventura). I introduced the individual section champions, and announced the times and scores at one mile and 2.1 miles. Peter introduced the teams and assisted at the finish. Tim called the races at one mile, 2.1 miles, and at the finish. Ken announced the awards.
All the runners wore shoe chips. As they ran over blue mats on the ground at one mile, 2.1 miles, and at the finish line their name, school, and time was recorded.

Junior Phillip Rocha (Arcadia SS), tenth as a freshman in 2012 in 15:27, fifth as a sophomore in 2013 in 15:18, won in 14:58 (4:49 per mile), the fastest time of the day.
Senior Robert Brandt (Loyola, Los Angeles SS), who is going to the University of California in Berkeley, was second in 15:07.
Loyola High School of Los Angeles is a Jesuit preparatory school for young men. It is the oldest high school and continuously run educational institution in Southern California.

I talked with their coach Lalo Diaz and top runner Robert Brandt in the lobby of the SpringHill Suites Fresno on Friday night. Diaz is a close friend of Cal coach Tony Sandoval. The Loyola team was all dressed uniformaly, unlike my former team from Berkeley High. There has been a continuous flow of men from Loyola to Cal in recent years starting with Mark Matusak in 2005.
Cal has also signed Marissa Williams (Pacific Charter, Pacific Palisades LAS), who was second in the Division I Girls race.
Junior Jake Ogden (Dana Hills, Dana Point SS) was third in 15:11 (4:54).
Eight points separated the first three teams.

Enobosarm ((2S)-3-(4-cyanophenoxy)-N-[4-cyano-3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]-2-hydroxy-2-methylpropanamide) (also known as Ostarine, GTx-024 and MK-2866) is an investigational selective androgen receptor modulator (SARM) from GTX, Inc for treatment of conditions such as muscle wasting and osteoporosis, formerly under development by Merck & Company.[1]
Structure[edit]
Ostarine versus andarine
According to a recent paper authored by GTx, "Readers are cautioned to note that the name Ostarine is often mistakenly linked to the chemical structure of [S-4], which is also known as andarine. The chemical structure of Ostarine has not been publicly disclosed."[2] While GTx has not formally disclosed the structure of Ostarine, the chemical composition of Ostarine is revealed in patent databases such the WIPO[3] and discussed by Zhang et al., 2009 in the primary literature.[4] Various SARM chemotypes exist (aryl propionamides, quinolines, quinolinones, bicyclic hydantoins), though aryl propionamides such as Ostarine, Andarine/S-4, and S-23 represent some of the most advanced putative therapeutics under investigation.[5] In terms of atom connectivity, Enobosarm differs from Andarine by cyano substitutions on the phenyl rings as it replaces both the nitro and acetamido moieties.
Doping[edit]
Selective androgen receptor modulators may be used by athletes to assist in training and increase physical stamina and fitness, potentially producing effects similar to anabolic steroids. For this reason, SARMs were banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency in January 2008 despite no drugs from this class yet being in clinical use, and blood tests for all known SARMs have been developed.[6][7]
In June 2013, professional cyclist Nikita Novikov was provisionally suspended after a possible breach of anti-doping rules, due to a positive A-sample result for Ostarine. [8]

Division II XC All-Region Honorees Announced for 2014
Courtesy: Dennis Young, USTFCCCA
November 26, 2014
NEW ORLEANS – All-Region honorees for NCAA Division II Cross Country were recognized Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) following the weekend’s NCAA regional championships meets.
A total of 397 student-athletes (199 men and 198 women) earned the distinction by finishing among the top 25 individual finishers at one of the eight regional sites across the country.
Five teams put their entire varsity in the top 25. They would be the Adams State women, and the men of American International, Augustana (S.D.), Grand Valley State, and Lock Haven.
Two women’s teams had six All-Region runners: Roberts Wesleyan and Stonehill. Shippensburg, Chico State, and Alaska Anchorage each had six All-Region men.
Adams State, Augustana, and Grand Valley State led the way with 12 combined honorees. Stonehill had 11, and Roberts Wesleyan, Edinboro, and Chico State had 10.
Most regions were dominated by a single conferences. Remember, each region has 50 runners receive All-Region. 31 of the Central’s came from the Northern Sun, 34 of the East’s came from the Northeast-10, 39 of the Midwest’s came from the GLIAC, and 40 of the South Central’s came from the RMAC. But none of those conferences top the PSAC, which provided the Atlantic Region with all 50 of its honorees.
The NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships will be held December 6 in Louisville, Kentucky, at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park as part of the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championships Festival. A live stream will be available on NCAA.com.
A full list of the honorees can be found below.

CIF State Meet Introduction Procedure and Spectator Tips
by Keith Conning, 73, Pleasanton, CA
e-mail: keithconning@aol.com
CIF State Meet Announcer
Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014
INTRODUCTIONS
All 2014 Section Champions and returning State Champions will be introduced 10 minutes prior to the
start of their race. Please make contact with the announcer when you arrive at the park. Please have your athletes at the introductions 15 minutes prior to race time. See page 4 of the XC Handbook.
http://static.psbin.com/m/w/uiaye55p93aho8/2014_XC_Handbook.pdf
The introduction area is located at the east end of the starting line near the picnic table.
I will introduce all of the individual Section champions before each race. You will be introduced in alphabetical order by Section: 1. Central Coast, 2. Central, 3. Los Angeles, 4. North Coast, 5. Northern, 6. Oakland, 7. San Diego, 8. San Francisco, 9. Sac-Joaquin, 10. Southern.
I will also introduce returning State Champions.
Peter Jensen, 59, a long-time announcer in the North Coast Section, Central Coast Section, and State Meet, will introduce all the teams. Peter is the Administrative Service Manager for the Santa Clara County District Attorney. His father, former U.S. District Judge D. Lowell Jensen, was the District Attorney of Alameda County.
Both Peter and I were introduced to track and field by our fathers, who took us to track meets at Edwards Stadium in Berkeley. My father was a sprinter in London, England in the spring of 1915 at the age of 17. He kept a diary which included his service with the Canadian Field Artillery in the First World War. He was a runner, who carried messages between the gun emplacements. He had to run through mustard gas. "The sulfur mustards, or sulphur mustards,[2] commonly known as mustard gas, are a class of related cytotoxic and vesicant chemical warfare agents with the ability to form large blisters on the exposed skin and in the lungs." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sulfur_mustard
Tim O’Rourke, who coached Arroyo High School of El Monte to the very first state championship in 1987, a popular AAF clinic speaker, and the High School Director of the Mt. SAC Relays, will call the race at the mile and at 2.1 miles.
I will announce the names and times of the leaders and the team scores at one mile and at 2.1 miles. I will also call out the names of athletes as they finish from a big truck just east of the finish line.
Spectator tips:
1. After you watch the start, you can go down to the one mile and 2.1 mile mark. The runners will pass that point twice as the course is designed like a figure eight. Then you can return to watch the finish. There is usually a lot of traffic on the bridge, so plan accordingly.
See the map of the course on p. 15 of the CIF State Cross Country Championships Handbook
http://static.psbin.com/m/w/uiaye55p93aho8/2014_XC_Handbook.pdf
2. Arrive early, as this is a very popular event and you may have to park a distance from the start and finish line.
3. Spectators' entrance to Woodward Park will be at the South Gate off Audubon.
4. Admission charges: General Admission - $10.00 CHILDREN - $5.00
5. A concession stand will be available at the park.
6. The program contains the names of all entered participants, a preview article by Rich Gonzalez of www.prepcaltrack.com, pictures, and records. It will be on sale Friday from 12:00 noon - 4:00 p.m.
7. Come on Friday and breath in the atmosphere of the largest State High School Cross Country Meet in the country.
