Teams Encouraged to Apply for Allan Steinfeld Development Award

Applications are being accepted for Running USA's annual Allan Steinfeld Development Award. Deadline to apply for this $25,000 grant is November 15, 2013. The winning team will be announced and feted at Running USA 2014: The 11th Industry Conference during the Hall of Champions Dinner on Monday, February 10, at the Marriott Marquis & Marina in San Diego, CA.

Tech Tent Returns to Conference 2014

Member Profile: Pro Football Hall of Fame Marathon


Canton, OH, will unveil a new event in 2014, when the Pro Football Hall of Fame Marathon comes to town. Known as America's Premier Sports Museum & Showplace, the Pro Football Hall of Fame will serve as the location for the race expo and pasta party, as well as the starting line.


An experienced group of runners scowered the streets of Canton and its surround communities to develop the fastest route from start to finish. Runners will travel through a complete Pro Football Hall of Fame experience throughout the race course. All runners will finish on the 50 yard line of the neighboring Fawcett Stadium, home of the annual NFL Hall of Fame game and enshrinement ceremony.



"We have taken a best practices approach to our event which will include a large name on bib, a multi-textured finisher medal, and aid stations placed on the ½ mile marks," states Jim Chaney, Executive Race Director. A few race day surprises are also in store for participants and will be announced as race day approaches.

Saucony® Advances in Running Specialty

Saucony announced that it has taken over the No. 2 market share position in the running specialty channel for August 2013. According to market research firm Leisure Trends Group, Saucony's total brand market share for August reached 17 percent in units, representing the largest market share in the company's history.



Santa to the Sea Half Marathon Announces Sponsorship

Santa to the Sea Half Marathon announced that PowerBar has signed on as an in-kind sponsor and will donate protein bars and energy gels for runners on the course and at the Finish Line Festival. Other sponsors of the December 8, 2013, event include the Port of Hueneme, Premier TV, Dole, Jersey Mikes, and The Collection at RiverPark, among others.



New York Road Runners Announces Sponsorship

New York Road Runners and Tata Consultancy Service,
announced an eight-year partnership, with TCS taking on the role of Title Sponsor in 2014 of the New York City Marathon, as well as year-round youth and community-focused events and programs, starting November 5, 2013.


Mankato Marathon Announces Cheer Zones
Expect 18 cheer zones along course at the Makato Marathon on October 20.


Woodrow Wilson Bridge Half Marathon Postponed

Fallout from the U.S. Government shutdown has forced postponement of the fourth annual Woodrow Wilson Bridge Half Marathon originally scheduled for October 6, 2013, from Mount Vernon, VA to National Harbor, MD. The USATF-sanctioned race now has been rescheduled for November 10, 2013



Austin Marathon Announces Elite Athlete Support

The Austin Marathon and Half Marathon® Presented by Freescale has reintroduced an elite field and added $40,000 in prize money, bonuses, and elite athlete supports to its 2014 event, to be held February 16, in Texas's capital city. Distance aces from around the country will compete for separate prize purses in both the marathon and the half marathon races in the 23rd annual edition of the event.



Marine Corps Marathon Event Program Available Online

The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) has introduced an interactive version of the event program "Salute." The full color 64-page magazine features the exciting MCM Weekend of events, event-day advisories for runners, key locations for spectators, the latest in event technology, the new MCM course map and feature profiles.


Exclusive Sports Marketing Announces Sponsorship

The Publix Super Markets Fort Lauderdale A1A Marathon & Half Marathon welcomes Colavita Olive Oil as the Presenting Sponsor of the event. Colavita secures the naming rights alongside Publix Super Markets for the 2014 (February 16) and 2015 events.


US Road Sports Announces Event

US Road Sports, in conjunction with the Fort Lauderdale Ski & Snowboard Show and the NBC 6 Renew You Health Expo, will stage a RunAppeal.com Fun Run October 13, at the Broward County Convention Center.


Ragnar Relays Announces Event

Ragnar Trail Relays, presented by Salomon, announces its 3rd new race of 2014, the Ragnar Trail Hill Country slated to run October 17-18, at Flat Rock Ranch in Comfort, TX.



Race Director University Offers November Sessions

Race directors will learn about strategies and operations at the fall RDU Level I & II, November 12-15, 2013, DePaul University - Naperville Campus, Naperville, IL. Discounted registration is available for Running USA members until October 31, 2013.



Marine Corps Marathon Announces Runner Tracking

The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) is partnering with Nissan to offer the latest in individual runner tracking services to both MCM participants and spectators. The Runner Broadcast and Track a Runner services enable runners and their supporters to obtain instant updates of a runner's progress every 10K of the race on October 27.


Saucony® Introduces Guide 7

Saucony® unveiled the Guide 7, the brand's newly updated stability performance shoe. The global launch of the Guide 7 will be at the 2013 ING New York City Marathon on November 1.

Richard Bolt has joined 5 Peaks Adventures as Chief Operations Officer. A longtime mountain and trail runner, Bolt will help lead expansion plans for Canada's largest and oldest trail running and snowshoe racing series.


For the 56th RRCA National Conference in Spokane, WA, May 1-4, 2014, Don Kardong, Bernard Lagat, and Deena Kastor, will be keynote speakers. Registration is now open for the Conference.
