Matador Men Finish Eighth, Women Ninth at MPSF Indoor Championships


Robert Robinson Finshes Second in the Heptahlon, De'Shawn Waters Takes Second in 200 Meters

SEATTLE, Wash. - Cal State Northridge wrapped up the MPSF Indoor Championships on Saturday as the Matador men finished eighth with 56 points while the Northridge women placed ninth with 32.50 points.

The meet, contested at the University of Washington's Dempsey Indoor was won by UCLA on the men's side and Stanford on the women's side.

The Matador men had a solid first day on Friday and had one second-place finish on Saturday. Robert Robinson finished second in the heptathlon with an NCAA Provisional qualifying score of 5,363 points. Robinson earned eight points for his second place finish while Lance Gonzales finished sixth with 5,065 points to earn an additional three points in the event.

Junior De'Shawn Waters, who finished second in the 200 meters on Friday, ran a 60 meter time of 6.88 to finish fourth on Saturday. Also on the track, the Northridge 4x400 meter relay team of Kevin Nious, Nic Taylor, Eugene Sanchez and Adam Marvin fnished eighth in a season-best time of 3:17.64.

The Matadors picked up 15 points in the field events on Saturday as Rolando Felizola placed fourth in triple jump with a mark of 49-9 (15.16) to earn five points. Eric Fremd also scored in the triple jump as he finished sixth with a with a season-best distance of 47-10.50 (14.59). Thomas Johnson also picked up five points for his fifth place finish in the high jump after matching his lifetime indoor-best 6-10.75 (2.10).

In the throws, Alex Butler finished seventh in the shot put with a lifetime-best 55-0 (16.76) which was good for two points. In the pole vault, Matt Todd and Anthony Orozco both tied for 14th at 15-5.75 (4.72).

On the women's side, Sherrina Lofton finished fourth in the 60 meters after running a time of 7.53. Stella Dugall picked up three points in the 60 meter hurdles after clocking a lifetime-best 8.81.

Northridge's 4x400 relay team of Tara Prier, Shelese Ruffin, Jasmine Cox and Lofton got the NCAA Provisional qualifying time they were seeking as the Matadors ran a season-best 3:39.89 to finish third.

In the field, Desirae Gonder finished in a tie for fourth in the high jump at 5-8.50 (1.74) and Whitney Hooks was sixth in the shot put at 45-7.75 (13.91).
