AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Texas Track & Field program hosted the Longhorn Invitational on Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The meet served as a final tune-up for the Longhorns, who now turn their attention towards the championship season and next weekend's Big 12 Championships in Fort Worth.

"It was a great day out here with weather for our final tune-up," head coach Mario Sategna said after the meet. "It was important to identify the athletes that needed one final tune-up today. We are now getting ready, first and foremost, to defend our titles at the Big 12 meet."

In addition to several collegiate athletes competing for the Longhorns, numerous Olympians and Texas Exes also competed. Olympian and World Record holder Jenn Suhr was victorious in the women's pole vault, posting a mark of 4.75m to win the event. Her final attempt of the day came up just short, as she attempted to set the American record with a mark of 4.93m.

Notable Texas Exes such as Trey Hardee, Hayden Baillio, Ashley Spencer, Hamza Dayef, Morgan Snow-Goodwin, Kendra Chambers and Bianca Knight also competed unattached, or representing their professional clubs, in the meet.

The Longhorns posted several strong marks and times throughout Saturday's meet, most notably by Lauryn Caldwell who won the women's hammer throw with a school record mark of 53.94m – the 10th-best throw in the Big 12 this season.

"Men and women, the vaulters had a great day," Satenga said. "It's pretty awesome when there are people like Jenn Suhr who come here to compete. Those groups really flourished because of her. Lauryn setting the school record in the hammer was great, and it was also good to see our hurdlers and other groups set season bests. It's not only a testament to our team, but also to our coaching staff, that they're peaking those athletes at the right time."

In the women's pole vault, Ali Uhle set a personal best with a mark of 4.20m. It was the fourth-best mark in the Big 12 this season and tied for the 25th-best mark in the country this outdoor season.

In the 100m Hurdles, Ashley Miller finished fifth with the top collegiate time of 13.27. That shattered her previous personal best, which was a 13.40 wind-aided mark. On the men's side, John Burt finished fourth with a mark of 14.07 in the 110m hurdles, just off his personal best mark of 14.06w. In the men's long jump, Basil Fares won with a personal-best mark of 7.85m.

Two Longhorns came away with victories in events they were running for the first time this season. On the men's side, Charles Mills won the 3000m with a time of 8:38.30. On the women's side of things, Meghan Lloyd won the 2000m steeplechase in 7:08.19. She was followed closely by Hannah Grubb, who set a personal best in the event at 7:09.07.

The Longhorns now turn their attention to the Big 12 Championships, which begin on Friday (May 13) in Fort Worth.

"We'll sit down on Monday and really look at who the final 32 men are going to be and who the final 32 women are going to be," Sategna said. "We are excited to head up to Fort Worth and represent The University of Texas to the fullest."
