LONG BEACH - Long Beach State men's track & field put together an incredible team effort to come away with their fourth-straight Big West title Saturday at Jack Rose Track. It was a record-breaking victory as the Beach earned its 10th Big West championship, tying former member Fresno State for the most in conference history. The Beach also joined the Bulldogs as the only two men's teams to win four Big West titles in a row. LBSU has now claimed the league championship in five of the last six years. The 49ers entered the second day of the Big West Championships in third place but took the lead after scoring 25 points in the pole vault. They never looked back from there, securing 176 points to finish well ahead of second-place UC Santa Barbara (125). "We've been waiting and working to have it all click and it finally did, and there wasn't a better time for it to happen," head coach Andy Sythe said. "Sometimes you get it early and it doesn't happen later, and sometimes it never happens, but everything came together from a team and performance perspective. "I am going to cherish and savor this one as much as any we've ever had," Sythe added. "Every year is special, but this one is a little different. I think I was prepared for us not to win because of the adversities we have been through, but then these guys just showed what a resilient team they are and really what great competitors they are. They competed hard, and what all coaches hope to see from their team, they just showed us that's who they are." Senior Willie Alexander scored a school-record 42 points on the weekend as he was named the Men's Athlete of the Meet. He won the triple jump, while claiming runner-up honors in the 100m, 200m, 4x100 and long jump. The men's pole vault was the first scored event of the day and the 49er crew catapulted the Beach into first place with 25 points. Senior Michael Montgomery defended his conference title, clearing 17-04.5. He beat out teammate Xander Cooper, who recorded a lifetime-best 17-00.75. Cooper, a junior transfer from Cuyamaca College, took second overall and became LBSU's third vaulter to reach 17 feet this season. Junior Paul Thenard added a fifth-place finish (16-06.75), while senior Conner Rouse and sophomore Dustin Wert each hit 16-00.75 to come in seventh and eighth, respectively. Long Beach State continued to roll from there as it opened the track events with a second-place showing in the 4x100. Alexander, senior Dylan McCloskey, senior Michael Perez-Rogers and redshirt freshman Kemonie Briggs joined forces to run a season-best 40.64. Senior Ryan Colebrook came up big for the Beach as he medaled in both hurdle events. Colebrook was the 400H champion after clocking in at a personal-record 51.69 seconds. That topped his previous best of 51.83 which he set in yesterday's prelims. Colebrook also notched a third-place finish in the 110 hurdles where he ran a lifetime-best 14.44. In the 400m, LBSU saw four athletes combine to score 20 points. Junior Daniel York-Mouton led the way with a runner-up performance (47.63). Briggs wasn't far behind in third (47.83), while McCloskey (47.93) and Perez-Rogers (48.57) came in fifth and seventh, respectively. In the midst of his triple jump competition, Alexander claimed runner-up honors in the 100m (10.48) and 200m (21.34). Both marks were personal bests and his 100m time ties him for fourth in program history. He also went on to win the triple jump after going for a season-best 50-08 on his second attempt. That allowed him to pass on his next four jumps while he made some noise on the track. It was Alexander's third career individual Big West title as he was the 2015 long jump and 2014 triple jump champion. Junior James Hubbard earned his second all-conference award of the meet as he took second in the discus at 178-06. Freshman Josh Carr finished one spot out of scoring, coming in ninth (160-06). Senior Kody Robison, who defended his Big West hammer title on Friday, added two more points with a seventh-place performance in the javelin. He threw for a season-best 195-09. The Beach then put a stamp on their fourth-straight Big West team title by winning the 4x400 relay for the third year in a row. Colebrook came from behind to pass UC Irvine's Lloyd Sicard over the final 200 meters for the victory. Briggs, York-Mouton, McCloskey and Colebrook ended up running 3:11.99. Men's Team Results

The Long Beach State women's track & field team scored 110 points to finish fourth overall at the Big West Championships Saturday at Jack Rose Track. After sweeping medalist honors in the 200m, the 49ers were only 2.5 points out of first with three scored events remaining, but with no competitors in the 5K, they slipped to fourth overall. Their 110 points were still the most they have scored at the conference meet since 2012. Junior Riley Cooks accounted for 31 of her team's points to be named the Women's Athlete of the Meet. She won the heptathlon last weekend, while also coming in second in the 100H and 200m, and fourth in the long jump. Senior Fatima Vergara started the day off with her second career Big West hammer title. She also won the conference crown in 2014 before redshirting last year. Vergara was third in her flight, but delivered a big toss of 196-00 on her first attempt of the finals to move into first place. That mark, which was just two inches shy of her lifetime best, stood as the best of the competition as she became LBSU's second two-time champion in the hammer, joining Stephanie Sampson (2003, 2004) in the exclusive group. Senior Marina Shelton also scored with a fourth-place showing (190-06). Senior Aundrea Yancy picked up three points in the high jump, clearing a season-high tying 5-05.25 to finish sixth overall. Senior Jessica Rotter also got on the board with a sixth-place finish in the shot put. She won her flight with a personal-record 47-01, which puts her at No. 10 on the 49er all-time charts. Vergara was one spot out of scoring position in ninth (46-04.25). Long Beach State put up some big performances on the track where it scored 54 points. Freshman Courtne' Davis led the way, winning the Big West title in the 100m (11.5) and 200m (23.65). Both times were wind-aided lifetime bests. Davis was LBSU's first-ever women's 100m conference champion and was also the first 49er to finish ahead of the pack in the 200m since Cathy Roberts in 1988. The Beach made it a clean sweep in the 200m with Cooks coming in second at 23.79, and Chambers finishing third at 24.07. Chambers added a third-place showing in the 100m (11.69), while sophomore Madison Carney also scored as she took seventh (11.9). Cooks was the runner-up in the 100m hurdles with a wind-aided 13.61. The Beach wrapped up the meet with a fifth-place performance in the 4x400 relay. Senior Brianna Wilson, sophomore Hollie Harris, senior Natalie O'Dwyer and Chambers combined to run a season-best 3:47.91. Women's Team Results
