IAAF World Half Marathon Championships highlights - 50 days to go

With 50 days to go to the IAAF/Cardiff University World Half Marathon Championships Cardiff 2016, the IAAF has launched a series of video highlights from past editions of the event.
The first video, published today, looks at the inaugural IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in 1992 when Kenya’s Benson Masya and Britain’s Liz McColgan won on the streets of South Shields.
In the lead-up to this year’s event in Cardiff, the IAAF will release a different highlights video each week.
Preliminary entries for this year’s championships show that 57 member federations have expressed their interest with a provisional total of 252 athletes (135 men and 117 women) set to compete in Cardiff.
To date, the 1995 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships remains the best attended as 244 athletes raced in Montbeliard that year. The record in terms of member federations is 60, from the 2002 edition in Brussels.
The most recent edition, held in Copenhagen in 2014, had 203 athletes from 56 countries.
