MIT Men’s Track and Field Begins 2015 at Boston University Season Opener

BOSTON, Mass. – The MIT men's track and field team began their 2015-16 campaign at the Boston University Season Opener held at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center yesterday afternoon. All four members of the team that competed qualified for the NCAA Division III New England Indoor Championship to be held later in February.
The Engineers sent four members to compete at the opening meet of the campaign, which included junior Rory Beyer (San Mateo, Calif.), and freshmen Joshua Rosenkranz (Glencoe, Ill.), Brian Gilligan (Framingham, Mass.) and Daniel Weiss (Naperville, Ill.).
Beyer kicked off the action for the Cardinal and Gray in the 3000m run as the junior registered a fifth place finish with a personal best time of 8:37.12. With his time, Beyer qualified himself to compete later in the season at the ECAC Division III Championship and the NCAA Division III Indoor New England Championship.
Rosenkranz, Gilligan and Weiss all competed in the 5000m run later in the afternoon. Rosenkranz, who placed second in his heat which qualified him for the final race, clocked a time of 15:14.76 for 16th place. Just behind him in 17th were Gilligan, who ran a personal best time of 15:15.97 and Weiss, who was 22nd, with a time of 15:29.79. All three Engineers qualified under the New England Division III Indoor Championship standard of 15:30.
MIT is off until after the New Year on January 9 when the Engineers host their annual Alumni Meet at Steinbrenner Stadium.
