Kanehaiula Leads Warriors to Second Place at SCC Championships; Team Advances to Southern Cal Championships

PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. – The El Camino College men’s cross country team finished second at the South Coast Conference Championships, led by freshman Solomon Kanehailua’s (North Torrance HS) eighth place finish on Friday afternoon.
Kanehailua completed the four-mile run in 23:22 in the 65-runner field to earn first team honors. Freshman Jacob Helftgott (Mira Costa HS) finished 11th (23:51), and freshman Michael Moody (Peninsula HS) was the team’s third-best finisher with a 13th place showing (24:04) – both earning second-team recognition.
The Warriors compete in the Southern Cal Championships on Friday, Nov. 6 at Mission Bay in San Diego.

Griffie Finishes Sixth to Lead Women’s Cross Country to Third at SCC Championships; Team Advances to Southern Cal Championships

PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. – Sophomore Hannah Griffie (West Torrance HS) finished sixth overall out of 50 runners to earn first team honors, leading the women’s cross country team to a third place finish at the South Coast Conference Championships on Friday afternoon.
Griffie finished the 5,000-meter course in 21:44 with freshman Jennifer Villarreal (North Torrance HS) close behind in 12th place (22:27), earning a second-team nod. Freshman Xiomara Perkins (Valencia HS) ran the third fastest time for ECC, completing the course in 22:49, good for 16th.
Cerritos took the team title, led by Marylu Pulido’s 20:36 effort.
The Warriors advance to the Southern Cal Championships on Friday, Nov. 6. The race will be held at Mission Bay in San Diego.
