BERKELEY – California Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Tony Sandoval has announced the addition of 17 standouts to join the 10 fall signees that will make up the full 2015-16 incoming class.
"I'm very pleased with the hard work the entire staff did throughout the year to recruit quality student-athletes that reflect the mission of the university,” Sandoval said. “We were able to recruit outside California and the USA because of Cal's world-wide prestige and the competitiveness of the Pac 12! Coupled with those signed in the fall, we have athletes that will immediately contribute across the board in cross country and track & field"
The following is a list of the newest Golden Bears, along with some of their notable accomplishments.
WOMEN
Georgia Bell of London comes to Cal from the University of Birmingham where she was the 2015 BUCS (British Universities & Colleges Sport) indoor 800-meter champion. Bell has also earned silver at the England Athletics Under-23 Championships. She will have two years of eligibility in Berkeley.

Jackie Chandler (San Ynez, Calif.) comes to Cal out of San Ynez High School and excels in the sprinting events. Chandler, in just her second year of competitive running, placed second at the Mt. Sac relays and was the silver medalist at the Southern Section CIF Masters.

400-meter: 54.58
Rebecca Croft is the second Golden Bear signee to come from England this spring as the Bourne End, Buckinghamshire native joins the Bears from Beaconsfield High School.

Ilse Kaaja comes to Cal after two standouts seasons at Utah. The Espoo, Finland, native will have two years of eligibility and was a bronze medalist in the hammer throw at the 2015 Pac-12 Championships after claiming sixth as a freshman the year prior.

Hammer Throw: 198-8 (60.55m)
Isabella Marten comes to Cal after a standout freshman season at SMU. The Stuttgart, Germany, native garnered All-American honors as a freshman in the triple jump last season, placing 14th at the NCAA Championships with a jump of 41-11.25 (12.78m). She was an NCAA qualifier in the triple jump and long jump and also earned All-AAC honors in the high jump.

Taylor Smith (Corona, Calif.) joins Cal from Eleanor Roosevelt High School. Competing in just her first year of track and field, Smith won the CIF Southern Section Master 400-meter dash at a personal best 54.46 while also competing as a critical member of both the 4x100 and the 4x400 meter relay teams.

Schantell Williams (Stockton, Calif.) joins Cal from Saint Mary’s High School. The Northern California product won the Sacramento MOC after running 55.12 in the 400-meter dash and also claimed second in the San Joaquin section championships in the 300-meter hurdles.

MEN
Kai Benedict (Reno, N.V.) is a middle distance runner out of McQueen High School. He won the Mt. Sac Relays in the mile at 4:09.82 and swept wins in both the mile and 3,000-meter runs at the Arcadia Open Invitational and the Stanford High School Invitational.

Tyler Brendel (Granite Bay, Calif.) is a decathlete from Granite Bay High School. He was a state qualifier in the 300-meter hurdles where he has a personal best of 37.84.

100-meter: 10.93
Marshall Godsil (San Jose, Calif.) is a thrower from Bellamine College Prep High School in the Bay Area. Godsil won the shot put and was the runner-up in the discus at the 2015 CIF Central Coast Section meet.

Leland Jones (Summit, N.J.) is a middle distance runner from Summit High School who placed fourth in the New Jersey State Meet in the 3,200m.

Copeland Laris (Long Beach, Calif.) was a member of the 4x400 relay state champion team at Wilson High School.

Alex McElwee comes to Cal from Pasadena City College where he won the 2015 State Junior College meet in the 400-meter dash. He finished the season with the second-fastest time this year among national community college sprinters with his mark of 46.19.

Connor Meech (Ladara Ranch, Calif.) is a hurdler from San Juan Hills High School where he finished as the runner-up at the California State meet in the 300-meter hurdles.

Malik McMorris (Santa Ana, Calif.) is a thrower from Mater Dei High School who was the runner-up in the discus throw at the state meet. He is a dual-sport athlete who is also on the football team at Cal, playing as a defensive lineman after earning All-American honors as a prep football athlete.

Miguel Martinez (Sacramento, Calif.) is a thrower from Jesuit High School with PR’s of 58’6 in the shot put and 164’6 in the discus.

Takeshi Okada (Yogama, Japan) is a distance runner from Kugayama Senior High School in Japan.
