Share your Lon story
Do you have a story about Lon to share?
If so, please email it to stories@lonspurrier.com, and Lon’s son, Randy, will post it on this website.
Also, if you have any photos of Lon that are fun, memorable, or particularly interesting, please send them to stories@lonspurrier.com so they can be posted on this website. Photos will also be used in a rotating photo display at the memorial service.
If your photos are printed, we’d love it if you could scan it, or take a photo of it with a smart phone or digital camera. Best results are obtained with flash off, and with the photo evenly lit. Try placing the photo on the floor or table, near a large window that doesn’t have direct sunlight. You should get enough light for the photo of the photo to be clear enough to everyone to enjoy.

P.S. The photo at the top of this page tells one story. The day was March 26, 1955, when Lon broke the world’s record in the half mile at Edwards Stadium in Berkeley with a time of 1:47.5. Note the clay and cinder track, and the large gap between Lon and the other runners that day. This print of the photo included a note in blue ink that Lon had started to draft to Brutus Hamilton, then later crossed it out (presumably there is another print of the photo with the final note to Brutus — this copy was in Lon’s files).
