  • LOS ANGELES – Day 1 of the the Pac-12 Track & Field Championships at UCLA finished with 13 newly crowned champions and both Oregon squads leading the pack heading into Sunday – but what's new? The Oregon men accrued 53 points on the day, edging out second-place UCLA (50) and Colorado (39). The Ducks women finished with 78 points, ahead of Stanford (40 points) and UCLA (39 points).
    News and notes from Saturday:
    • Oregon senior Sam Crouser became the first man in conference history to win four consecutive javelin championships. The 2014 NCAA champion grabbed the title with his final throw, a 77.06-meter hurl.
    • Stanford senior Brianna Bain followed suit on the women's side, joining Oregon's Rachel Yurkovich (2006-09) and USC's Inga Stasiulionyte (2001-04) as the third woman to claim four straight javelin trophies.
    • Oregon superstar Jenna Prandini scratched for the weekend, citing illness. She was set to compete in the 100, 200 and long jump, all of which she won at the 2014 Pac-12 Championships. The USC women were looking like strong contenders to dethrone Oregon leading up to the championships, and Prandini's scratch certainly helps the Trojans.
    • Washington's Jax Thoirs and Chris Williams went 1-2 in the pole vault, finishing at 18-06.50 (5.65m) and 17-04.50 (5.30m), respectively. Thoirs attempted to beat the meet record (5.72m), but had to settle for back-to-back Pac-12 titles.
    • UCLA junior Zibby Boyer beat Oregon senior Lauren Crockett in a jump-off to decide the high jump championship after they both finished at 5-11.50 (1.82m).
    • Arizona senior Pete Lauderdale II posted the leading time in the men's 400, a 46.28, in front of his former home crowd. Lauderdale II transferred from UCLA to Arizona following the 2014 season.
    • Colorado junior Ammar Moussa put a bow on the day with a dramatic come-from-behind finish to win the men's 10,000-meter race, Saturday's final event.
    • Stanford's Garrett Sweatt and Will Drinkwater paired with USC's Just'N Thymes headline the unofficial all-Pac-12 Your Name Proves You Were Born to Run Track team.
