NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) releases twelve sets of track & field team rankings: NCAA Divisions I, I, and III, NJCAA Divisions I and III, and the NAIA. Out of all of them, the NAIA women’s rankings released on Wednesday had by far the tightest race for the No. 1 spot: the Indiana Tech women are just 1.60 points ahead of No. 2 Wayland Baptist of Texas.

The Wayland Baptist women had been ranked No. 1 for the last month; the Tech men were ranked No. 1 for the sixth straight week.
Indiana Tech’s women took over the top spot with serious depth: none of their new points came from performances that ranked in the top four nationally. Their highest-ranking performance from this weekend was Laura Condron’s national No. 5 steeple; the rest of their most significant new points came from the vault, 4×800, 100 hurdles, 200, and 100. The Warrior women have 60.5 points from 100, which would be in the top fifty nationally if it were one team.
The men’s top three–No. 2 Oklahoma Baptist and No. 3 Concordia (Neb.) behind Tech–remained unchanged. The next five teams were the same squads from last week, but in a different order: No. 4 Southern Oregon, No. 5 Wayland Baptist, No. 6 Concordia (Ore.), No. 7 Eastern Oregon, No. 8 British Columbia, and No. 9 Doane. No. 10 Olivet Nazarene anchored the top ten for the second straight week.
In the women’s rankings, No. 3 Doane, No. 4 British Columbia, No. 5 Concordia (Neb.), No. 6 Oklahoma Baptist, No. 7 Westmont, No. 8 Embry-Riddle, No. 9 Cornerstone, and No. 10 Aquinas are well behind the top two teams.
One men’s and three women’s teams joined the top twenty-five this week. No. 21 Park (Mo.) joined the men’s rankings after being the last team out last week; women’s No. 19 Illinois Wesleyan, No. 21 Dordt, and No. 24 St. Francis (Ill.) all entered the top twenty-five. It was the season debut in the rankings for St. Francis.
The NAIA national rankings will be released on Wednesdays between now and the May 21-23 national championships in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
