DAVIS, Calif. - Katie Barber broke her own school record in the high jump and sprinter Ashley Marshall had two of the Aggies' nine wins as the UC Davis women's track and field team rolled to a quadrangular victory at the Cal Opener on Saturday afternoon.

The Aggies scored 196 points to beat the host Bears (172), rival Long Beach State (163) and San Francisco (49). The UC Davis men finished third in its meet, scoring 127 points. Cal tallied 218.5 points to finish first, Long Beach State was a close second with 206.5 and USF was fourth with 38.

The meet was the season-opener for the Aggie teams.

Barber broke a 27-year-old school record in the high jump last season when she cleared 5 feet, 8.75 inches at Cal's Brutus Hamilton Challenge. She beat that by a half-inch on Saturday, going 5-9.25 to win the event by 4.25 inches.

UC Davis won nine events overall, including a sweep of the 100, 200, 400 and 800-meters. Ashley Marshall, the two-time defending Big West Track Athlete of the Year, had a pair of individual wins. She went 11.41 to easily win the 100 before posting another sizeable victory in the 200 when she crossed in 23.90.

Marshall added a third victory when she teamed with Cekarri Nixon, Emma Redick and Rochelle Nadreau to win the 4x400 in 3:45.13, nearly five seconds faster than second-place Cal (3:50.15).

Nixon, the school-record holder in the 400, opened her senior season with a win as well, capturing the event in 54.95. She was also second in the 400 (24.54). Raquel Lambdin completed the sweep of the races with her first-place finish in the 800 in 2:11.19.

Besides running on the winning long relay, Redick picked up an individual win of her own when she captured the 400 hurdles in 1:01.20. The time also debuted her to a tie for fifth on the program's all-time list. Erika Barr provided a win for the Aggies' distance crew, taking the 3,000 in 9:50.61and leading a dominant showing for UC Davis which had Hannah Kirkegaard (9:53.16), Clara MacLeod (9:57.55) and Nicole Lane (10:11.91) grab the next four spots.

Barber's high jump win was one of three in field events for the Aggies. Breanna Standifer won the discus with a throw of 150-0, improving her No. 8 all-time position at UC Davis. Michaela Mundt had a huge PR in the hammer throw, surpassing her previous best by nearly 20 feet when she won the event on Saturday with a mark of 181-05. That jumped her to No. 3 on the all-time list.

Christine Hoffman had the only other mark that altered the career leaders list, finishing the 1,500 in 4:27.82 that put her No. 10 all-time.

The Aggie men challenged throughout the meet, picking up a highlight from sprinter Jason Chandler who was second in the 400 hurdles in 52.65 seconds, moving him to No. 10 on the program's all-time list. He also ran a leg on the second-place 4x400 relay (3:15.76) that also included Brian Thomas, Jelani Legohn and Hosea Tate.

Trevor Ehlenbach was fourth in the 800 in 1:50.99, a time that was just .01 off his PR. Nick Ratto added a PR in the 1,500 with his fourth-place finish of 3:47.75 that jumped him to No. 6 on the Aggies' career leaders list.

Other top-three individual finishes came from Amar Dholakia in the 3,000 (8:35.85) who was third, Shane Ryan who tied for second in the high jump (6-4.75) and Forrest Hierholzer who finished third in the pole vault (16-0.75).

UC Davis will make its home debut next Saturday when it hosts the Aggie Open at Woody Wilson Track.
