Timothy (Tim) Joseph Bruder Resident of Walnut Creek On Saturday, November 28, 2009, Timothy Bruder passed away at home after a long illness. He had just returned from the High School State Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning. Tim was the Head Cross Country and Track and Field Coach at Alhambra High School since 1983. Coach Bruder has been influential in creating the very successful running programs as well as creating a highly celebrated Automotive Technology Class. Many of his students have successfully participated in Automotive Competitions and find jobs and internships in community dealerships. He has been instrumental in running many North Coast Section and Diablo Foothill Athletic League Track and Cross Country meets. His athletes have participated at the highest levels of competition and they were able to go on to compete in many college programs throughout the nation. "Coach Bruder" has dedicated his life to the youth of Martinez in hopes that they would be able to become better citizens of the world. He was not just a coach, but a role model in the pursuit of excellence and personal bests. Tim Bruder was born in 1954 in Ottawa, Canada. He has lived in the East Bay since his early teen years and graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1972. After high school, he attended Diablo Valley College where he began his running career as a steeple chaser and then went on to attend U.C Berkeley as an undergraduate where he was a member of the Old Blues Rugby Team and continues to follow their sports programs as an avid fan of the Bears. He received his B.A. degree in Physical Education from San Francisco State. In 1983 he graduated from St. Mary's College of Moraga, where he received a Master's Degree in Sports Administration. In his spare time, he enjoyed jeeping and camping with this friends, long board surfing with his nephew, photography, reading history and philosophy books. He also attended many seminars on Automotive technology and Coaches Clinics. He is an active member of the USA Track and Field Track Coaches Association, California Teacher's Association, North American Council of Automotive Teachers, Automotive Youth Educations Systems, and California Institute of Automotive Technology. He is survived by his loving sisters: Roberta Chisam (Scott) of San Jose, CA; Marianne Duncan (Donald) of Dixon, CA; Kathryn Lago (Jon) of Vacaville, CA; his nephews: Matthew and Christopher Chisam, Brean and Kyle Duncan, and Elyse and Megan Lago. He will be missed by his R.O.P and shop colleagues, the North Coast Section High School Coaches and long time friends: Steve Brower, Stan Brodie, Paul Kosta, Bob McGuire, Sr., Ed Miller, Doyle O'Reagan, Glenn Parker, Dave Ponas, Kevin Searls, Louie Valpone, and Doug Whiting. There will be a memorial held at Alhambra High School on December 19th, 2009 at 4pm in the Gymnasium. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to encourage people to make donations to the Alhambra High School Cross Country and Track and Field Programs or the Automotive Competition Teams.
