March 7, 2015 Complete Results BERKELEY, Calif. - Long Beach State started the outdoor season with nine 49ers establishing lifetime bests, and three moving into the LBSU Outdoor All Time Top-10 List. Both the men and women fell behind the Cal Bears, who were ranked first in the nation last year for the men in scored teams like the Cal Opener. The 49ers were ranked ninth, and the women were ranked 21st. "We came into this meet today with hopes to beat the Bears," head coach Andy Sythe said. "We always want to be a track contender, always seeking the track title, and we've been making great strides. Our men's team just keeps getting better and our women's team is getting better." A number of Beach athletes had impressive performances, placing first in the meet. The men swept the relays earning first in both the 4x100m and 4x400m. Dylan McCloskey, Cameron Glasgow, Michael Perez-Rogers and A.J. Elam ran the 4x100m with a time of 40.89, and Perez-Rogers, Glasgow, McCloskey and Jahmani Lockett combined for a 3:13.10 time in the 4x400m. Glasgow finished first in the 200m (21.18) and 400m (47.52). Chris Low had a first place finish in the 800m (1:48.83). Ryan Sanders placed first in the triple jump (51-03). Elam completed a lifetime best in the 100m with a time of 11.07 and finishing fourth in the meet. Perez-Rogers also had a lifetime best in the 200m finishing third with a time of 21.46.
 

 

Both Connor Rouse (17-00.75) and Michael Montgomery (16-06.75) both tied their personal bests in the pole vault. Rouse finished first in the pole vault, and his mark ties for ninth overall in program history. Kody Robison established a new record in the hammer throw placing ninth overall in school history. Robison placed second in the meet with a 196-09.50 mark. Robert Marlow finished fourth and had a new lifetime best with a 182-06.25 mark. Victor Martin tied for first in the shot put with a new lifetime best of 56-00. Marlow also had a personal best in the shot put at 51-00.25. Kevin Ramirez hit a lifetime best in the 3000m with a time of 8:36.55. On the women's side, the success doesn't fade at all. Freshman Elijah McDonald finished first in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.56. Senior Taylor Jackson finished first in the long jump with a 19-06.75 mark. Taylor Lorack finished with a lifetime best in the 400m hurdles, placing second in the meet with a time of 61.66. The women's throws also continues to perform exceptionally well. Marina Shelton finished first in the hammer throw earning a lifetime best and the fourth overall spot in program history with a 185-01.25 mark. Natasha Caldwell finished second in the javelin, but established a lifetime best and the tenth overall spot in school history with a 139-07.50 mark. "I'm so proud of our men and women, and it seemed like everywhere we turned, we were coming out successful," Sythe said. "I'm not hurt or disappointed, but I'm kind of dumbfounded a little bit that we didn't come away with the victory. With that being said, just going to keep getting stronger. We're not going to go fall in a hole, but there was a lot of emphasis that we wanted to put on this and it would've been special to beat last year's number one dual team at their home." Next week, the Beach will travel to Fullerton, Calif. for the Ben Brown Invitational (Hammer) on Friday, March 13. The next day (Saturday, March 14), the squad will head to Irvine, Calif. for the Anteater Invitational.
