Conor McCullough

won the men's weight throw with a meet and school record, Jaide Stepter
Stepter, Jaide5-8HurdlesJRTucson, Ariz.
won the women's 400m dash and eight Trojans advanced to tomorrow's finals during the first day of competition at the 40th Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational held at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Indoor Track in Lincoln, Neb. today (Feb. 6). The top-notch competition includes teams from the Big Ten, Big 12, SEC and Pac-12 among others.
"We had some solid performances today in Nebraska," said USC Director of Track & Field Caryl Smith Gilbert. "Of course, Conor threw an outstanding new school record and put himself in good position on the NCAA list. There were some great marks and a few PRs in the 60m and 60m HH. This is our first meet this year on a banked track and for most of the freshmen their first time ever running on a banked track. We had consistent marks and quite a few qualifiers for tomorrow's finals. I am pleased with the energy and progress of our team today."
The redshirt senior McCullough won the men's weight throw with a school record on his second throw of 74-7.00 (22.73m) which also set the meet record, breaking the old mark which had stood since 2007. McCullough won the event by nearly three feet and three of his six throws would have won the event. McCullough improved to three-for-three in his career in weight throw competitions, winning twice in the 2012 season. His mark today puts him in third place in the country.
