ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy women’s track and field team (13-0) finished first out of five teams at the Navy Invitational on Thursday at the Wesley A. Brown Field House. The Mids defeated Mount St. Mary’s (395-113), Maryland-Eastern Shore (316-214), James Madison (370-185) and Delaware (287.5-255.5).
“It is always difficult coming back from break, not just for us but for all teams, but tonight was a good measuring stick on what our strengths and weaknesses were to see where we need to improve,” Navy head coach Carla Criste said. “We started off great, especially with Kelley Robinson in the 5000m run to get the rest of the squad going.”
Junior Kelley Robinson (Nederland, Colo.) finished first in the 5000m run with a time of 17:44.45. Following Robinson, Navy teammates Christina Blair (Sr., Peninsula, Ohio),Michelle Nelson (Jr., Severna Park, Md.) and Emily Jensen (Sr., The Woodlands, Texas) placed in the next three spots with times of 17:57.66, 18:07.54 and 18:08.31, respectively.

 

 

Amanda Mulkey (Jr., Fallbrook, Calif.) placed first in the mile run with a time of 5:13.03, beating out Delaware’s Mellissa Mazzo by 0:00.38 seconds. Senior Sarah Bernhardt(Conshohocken, Pa.) finished second place in the 500m run with a time of 1:18.01, just 0:00.12 off of Delaware’s Kelley Donovan.
In the pole vault, Navy grabbed two of the top three spots with freshman Charlene Kearns (Rochester, N.Y.) placing first with a mark of 11ft-3.75in (3.45m). Amanda Graham (Sr.,Wakefield,R.I.) finished third with a mark of 11ft-3.75in (3.45m).
Junior Crystan McLymore (Raleigh, N.C.) took first place in the triple jump with a performance of 37ft-9.5in (11.52m).
Navy will continue the 2014-15 indoor track and field season on Saturday, January 17 at the Maryland Invitational.
