Sixth Annual National Running Day Set for Wednesday, June 4

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - (June 1, 2014) - National Running Day-a coast-to-coast cele bration of running and a collaboration with top U.S. running organizations to promote running as a
healthy and accessible form of exercise-will take place on Wednesday, June 4, it was announced today by Running USA. From New York City to Houston, and in more than 100 cities across the country, runners will participate in group runs, wear National Running Day customizable bibs, pledge their miles to charity, post photos to social media and more.

"Running USA and our members look forward to promoting National Running Day not only as a way to celebrate running and its many benefits, but also as a platform to invite and encourage new runners to take their first steps to fitness and kick off a life-changing commitment," said Rich Harshbarger, CEO of Running USA.

National Running Day allows longtime and beginner runners alike to celebrate the sport and build connection and community between fellow runners of all ages and abilities, as well as attracts new participants. Whether runners join a group run for the hundredth or first time, spread the running bug to a friend, sign up for a race, or set a new goal, the day is meant to celebrate the reasons and people that make a running a special part of their lives.

Fast Times, Incredible Age Group Record Highlight Suja Rock 'n' Roll San Diego Marathon

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (June 1, 2014)- On the 17th anniversary of the Suja Rock 'n Roll San Diego Marathon & 1/2 Marathon To Benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma, at the 13.1-mile distance, youth was served today. And Ethiopians ruled the roads.

Nearly 25,000 runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes hit the pavement, entertained by more than 40 bands and 20 cheerleading squads lining the scenic San Diego racecourse. To cap off the day, Aloe Blacc helped runners celebrate their accomplishments with an unforgettable finish line performance inside Petco Park.

In the men's half marathon, 20-year-old Solomon Deksisa of Ethiopia broke away from Kenyan Geoffrey Bundi near mile 11 and sped to victory, winning in 1 hour, 12 seconds. Bundi, 26, finished second in 1:00:28, which was over a 2 minute PR and the fastest half-marathon run on U.S. soil this year.

Kenya's Kabuu Crowned Champion at 2014 Freihofer's 5K
ALBANY, NY (May 31, 2014) - A blustery day with perfect racing temperatures greeted 4,112 women as they lined up downtown for the start of the
36th Freihofer's Run for Women.

Emily Chebet (KEN), the defending champion (who had set the course record at 15:12 in 2010) was not among the contenders this year, having been encouraged by her home country's national federation to focus on the forthcoming Commonwealth Games. That did nothing to dilute the depth of the field, however, as even a cursory glance as the early race leaders affirmed. As the hoard charged up the opening hill, two-time winner (2011, 2012) Mamitu Daska (ETH) was already at the forefront, as were two-time Olympian Lucy Kabuu (KEN), Boston Marathon second placer Buzunesh Deba (ETH), 15:01 track runner Afera Godfay (ETH), 2008 Olympian Zemzem Ahmed (ETH) and a handful of others who were all capable of taking the prestigious crown and, with it, the first place prize of $10,000.
