LOS ANGELES – The UCLA track and field team split with USC in the annual dual meet that was held on Sunday in Drake Stadium. The men won for the fourth year in a row, downing the Trojans, 89-74, while the women fell, 95-68.

The Bruins swept 11 events overall, six on the men’s side and five in the women’s meet. The sweep in the men’s 5,000m sealed the victory for the Bruins. The lifetime best of 14:23.41 by Sergey Sushchickh in the 5,000m led to the win.

On senior day, Mike Woepse wasn’t able to partake in the festivities that were held on the infield but he was having a party of his own. Woepse cleared a meet record and new personal best 18-5.25 to lead a UCLA sweep in the pole vault. Mark Sakioka and Scott Cook both cleared season-bests to close out the sweep.

In the women’s pole vault the Bruins swept as well as Elena Clarke won the event at 13-0.25. Renee Greene was second at 12-6.25 while Natasha Kolbo was third at the same height.

The Bruins were big in the distance and field events all day. For the men, they also earned sweeps in the steeple where Nohe Lema won the event with a 9:11.97 and in the 1,500m where Ferdinand Edman won with a time of 3:49.00.

In the field the Bruins swept the shot put, led by a personal best effort from Nicholas Scarvelis with a throw of 64-4.50. UCLA swept the discus with Julian Wruck leading the way with a 195-3.

Other event winners for the Bruins on the men’s side were Nick Hartle in the 800m (1:48.31), Cody Crampton in the high jump (6-11) and Michael Perry in the long jump (24-3).

For the women, the trend continued in the distance events and in the field as UCLA swept the 5,000m with Bronte Golick leading the way with a 17:44.28. UCLA also swept the 800m where Elle Sanders won with a time of 2:10.87.

In the javelin, Zaybree Haury led a sweep where she launched a personal best of 159-1. That mark is third all-time at UCLA. In her last home meet of her career Victoria Breidenthal threw 124-3 while Deanna Bembry completed the sweep with a 120-4.

The high jump continued to be a strong event for the Bruins as Alexis Walker once again earned the win with a leap of 5-8.50. Zibby Boyer was second at 5-7.25 while Caroline Gyllenbern followed at 5-7.25.

Other winners for the Bruins were Kylie Price in the long jump with a mark of 20-6.50. In the steeple, Meghan Marvin ran the sixth fastest time in UCLA history with a personal best of 10:40.32.
