Record Number of Finishers at 43rd ING New York City Marathon


NEW YORK - More than 50,000 runners - 50,304, to be exact -

finished the 2013 ING New York City Marathon on

Sunday, November 3 - the biggest field ever at the event and the largest marathon in history, it was announced by New York Road Runners President and CEO Mary Wittenberg.


Highlights from the event across a number of areas follow:

50,740 starters
50,304 finishers (largest marathon ever)
109 countries represented
50 states and the District of Columbia represented
Winners:

Female open race winner: Priscah Jeptoo (Kenya), 2:25:07
Male open race winner: Geoffrey Mutai (Kenya), 2:08:24
First American male finisher: Ryan Vail (Portland, OR), 13th, 2:13:23
First American female finisher: Adriana Nelson (Boulder, CO), 13th, 2:35:05

Edith Sanford Breast Cancer Foundation Named Official Charity Partner of Women's Running Series



SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Women's Running Series is pleased to welcome the Edith Sanford Breast Cancer Foundation as the official charity partner of the 2014 series, beginning with the Women's Running San Diego Half Marathon on Saturday, February 22. This announcement comes on the heels of the Foundation's successful debut as charity partner of the recent Women's Running Scottsdale Tempe Half Marathon + 5K.



As a result of the partnership, the Foundation will kick off fundraising activities related to the 2014 race series in February at the Women's Running San Diego Half Marathon. National Edith Sanford spokesperson and former host of Entertainment Tonight, Mary Hart, will participate in the San Diego event in honor of her grandmother, who died from breast cancer, and her mother, who is a breast cancer survivor.

RRCA Announces 2013 Kids Run the Nation Grant Recipients
ARLINGTON, Va. - The Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) is pleased to announc e the 2013 Kids Run the Nation grant recipients. Twenty-five programs throughout the U.S. serving over 4,500 children will receive a total of $20,250 in grants from the RRCA. In addition, the RRCA will donate copies over 10,000 copies of the Kids Run the Nation: A Running Guide for Kids booklet to be given to program participants in thirty-four different programs, an in-kind donation to these programs valued at over $10,000.

Keynote Speakers Announced for 2014 RRCA Convention


The Road Runners Club of America announced an all-star lineup of featured speakers for their 2014 RRCA National Convention,the 56th edition of the event, in Spokane, Wash. The event is scheduled for Thursday to Sunday, May 1-4 and will precedes the Lilac Bloomsday race set for Sunday, May 4.


The featured speakers are all well-known U.S. Olympic distance runners: Don Kardong, Bernard Lagat, and Deena Kastor.

Running USA Re-Opens CEO Search



Running USA has re-opened its search for a new CEO. This past spring, Susan Weeks, a resident of Colorado Springs, retired as its CEO, and during her five-year tenure, the Running USA budget doubled in size, its popular annual conference set attendance and sponsor records and its membership hit an all-time high. During the CEO search, Weeks will continue as an advisor to Running USA.

Running USA Conference Returns to Southern California


COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - (November 3, 2013) -Running USA 2014: The Industry Conference powered by ACTIVE Network will be held on February 9-11 at the Marriott Marquis & Marina in San Diego.
