SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The No. 24-ranked San Francisco women's cross country team raced their top runners for the first time this season, and found immense success at the Notre Dame Invitational Friday afternoon.

The Dons were unfazed by the warm and humid Indiana day as USF finished in third place overall, highlighted by two Top 10 individual performances. Competing in a stout field that featured eight teams in the nation's top 30, the Dons were led by Bridget Dahlberg's seventh-place finish in a time of 17:13.95. This marks Dahlberg's first time in a USF uniform after transferring from Boston College for graduate school to exhaust her eligibility.

Eva Krchova, last year's West Coast Conference Player of the Year and individual champion, opened her 2013 campaign with an eighth-place finish in a time of 17:15.67. Third to cross for the Dons was junior Kate Jamboretz, who completed the course in 17:26.67.

"I am pleased with how well our women competed this afternoon, and we have tons of room for improvement," head coach Helen Lehman-Winters said. "Bridget was nails up front for us, and Eva moved through the field to snag a Top 10 finish. Kate continues to impress and was super tough."

Florida State, ranked second in the nation, won the race, with No. 15 New Mexico taking second. USF outpaced many other top teams in the nation, including No. 4 Duke (10th place), No. 19 Notre Dame (6th place) and No. 28 BYU (4th place).

"We beat some very good out-of-region team,s and hopefully this will help us get to the NCAA Championships in November," Lehman-Winters said. "I am confident we can be even better in two weeks and into the month of November."

The women have two weeks to prepare for the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational in its next opportunity for at-large points. The meet is slated to take place in in Madison on Oct. 19.
