Patrick Douglas enters the season as one of the senior leaders on the nationally ranked Bruins squad.
What are you looking forward to most about being a member of the team?
Competing with my best friends to be the best team we can be and work together like no other team.
Why did you choose UCLA?
UCLA is the greatest athletic and one of the greatest academic schools in the world with a rich history.
How did your family react to your college decision?
They were very happy and proud.
When did you begin competing and why?
My freshman year in high school because I thought I could be good at running.
When did you realize you could compete at the Division 1 level?
After I ran 8:15 in the 3K and 3:51 in the 1500m at junior college I thought I may be fast enough to run at UCLA.
What is your proudest accomplishment?
Getting in to UCLA and being able to compete for the Bruins in track and cross country.
What has been the biggest adjustment you've had to make as a college athlete?
Dealing with the stress of always competing against the best athletes in the country and having to run 100% in every workout to stay with the great men on this team.
What goals do you have for this season?
To be a top-5 team at the NCAA meet. Individually to be an All-American and then in track make it to the final round of the 5K at the NCAA meet.
Have you decided on or what is your major and why?
Geography and environmental studies because geography is my favorite subject.
What are your plans after college?
Go to law school or medical school.
Is there any other athlete, either professional or collegiate, that inspires you?
Kobe Bryant, Ben True and Galen Rupp.
Aside from track, what is your favorite sport?
Basketball, surfing and hockey.
Athletes have strict diet regimens, but if there is one food you cannot live without, what is it?
Milk
What's on your iPod right now?
Lil Wayne, Eminem and White Stripes.
