Elliott Narrowly Misses World B Mark With 1500m Win At KBC-Heusden 1500m


(Zolder-Heusden, Belgium) - Matt Elliott (Brooks) took the lead with 250-meters to go and never looked back Saturday, winning the B heat of the 1500-meters at the KBC Night of Athletics with a personal best of 3:37.07. Off of a slow pace, Elliott blasted a 54-second final lap, passing the field and narrowly missing the World championships B standard of 3:37.00, but setting himself up for another shot in the week to come.


Elliott will take advantage of his improved personal best and compete in the 1500-meters at Tuesday's Meeting Internazionale Di Atletica Leggera Sport Solidarieta' in Lignano, Italy, before one last try at the German Bottrop Gala next Saturday.

Dey Notches Another Road Mile Win At Boulder's Pearl Street Mile


(Colorado Springs, CO) - Dey Dey (adidas/BRC) won a Colorado road mile for the second week in a row, kicking away from Macklin Chaffee for the win at the Pearl Street Mile in Boulder on Wednesday. Running a tactical race on the tight six-turn course, Dey won by two seconds in 4:13, just a second off of the course record.


Dey will next compete at the Ryan Shay Memorial Mile in Charlevoix, Michigan, on July 27th.

Smail Takes 5000m Title At French National Championships And Narrowly Misses 3k Steeplechase Upset


(Colorado Springs, CO) - On the first day of the three day French athletics championships held in Paris, France, on Friday, ADP International Elite athlete Nouredine Smail showed his sharpness, devastating the field with a 52-second final lap to win by almost 100-meters with a time of 13:49.68.


With one day of rest, Smail then faced off with 3,000-meter steeplechase World Championship teammates Mahiedine Mekhissi Benabbad and Yoann Kowal, with the trio displaying why they pose a medal threat in Moscow. Off of a slow tactical pace, Smail and Olympic Silver medalist and new European record holder Mekhissi Benabbad pulled away from Kowal racing neck and neck right to the wire with a 56-second final lap over hurdles and the water jump. The Olympian was able to hold off Smail 8:46.57 to 8:46.76 to defend his national title, while Kowal was back in third at 8:50.55.


Smail will give one more shot at the world 5,000-meter standard next Friday in at the Diamond League Herculis Meeting in Monaco, and then, along with Benannad who is currently ranked #2 in the world, Smail, who is ranked #21, will compete in the World Championships in Moscow with the prelims of the steeplechase being held on August 12.
