INDIANAPOLIS - (July 6, 2012) - USA Track & Field Foundation Executive Director Tom Jackovic and Chairman Bob Greifeld have announced that the Foundation, after its board meeting June 30, will double the original Elite Athlete Grantee bonus pool cap of $50,000 announced on April 11 to $100,000.

"We are thrilled to see the extraordinary performances of our Foundation's grantees at the Olympic Trials," said Jack Wickens, Foundation Director. "The number of grantees who have earned their way to be on the Olympic team has far exceeded our most optimistic projections."

With the 2012 Olympic Trials at historic Hayward Field now in the books, there are 19 Foundation grant recipients who have punched their tickets to London. Jackovic and Greifeld have announced that each London-bound athlete will receive a $5000 bonus.

The 19 Foundation sponsored athletes who have been named to Team USA more than doubles the 2008 result when 9 grantees qualified for the Olympic team. They include:

In addition, the USATF Foundation board awarded a $3500 John W. James Endowment grant, as well as the $5000 bonus, to Amanda Bingson. Amanda, a recent UNLV grad, thrilled the crowd at the Nike campus last Thursday when she set multiple personal records, met the Olympic "A" standard and made her first Olympic team in the hammer throw.

The Foundation Elite Athlete Grant Program contributes to the pursuit of world class performances by American post-collegiate track and field athletes. Athletes must meet minimum performance and financial need standards to be eligible.

The USATF Foundation provides a means to attract and guide funds to new and innovative track and field programs with an emphasis on providing opportunities for youth athletes, emerging elite athletes, distance training centers and anti-doping education. The Foundation depends upon donations from its Board of Directors and from generous fans of track & field.

On Friday, September 21, 2012, the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) will promote the 7th RUN@WORK Day nationwide. Inaugural Woman's Half Marathon & 10K Set for December 9

Celebration of women's health includes Wellness Boutique in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. - (July 5, 2012) - Woman's Hospital and Gulf Coast Event Group has announced the Gulf South's first major running event exclusively for women. The Inaugural Woman's Half Marathon, 10K and Wellness Boutique will be held on Sunday, December 9, 2012.

"Woman's has focused on improving the health of women in our community for more than four decades, so we are excited to host a signature event that not only reinforces our mission, but also promotes a continuing healthy lifestyle," said Teri Fontenot, Woman's President and CEO.

"This event is a celebration of women's health," said Adam Guess, Managing Partner of Gulf Coast Event Group. "It is not only the first major endurance event in this area designed just for women, but it also provides a great platform for fundraising for several worthy causes."

The course will take runners from downtown Baton Rouge south towards LSU, with the 10K returning north on Nicholson and the half-marathon taking runners around the lakes and then returning to loop around the capital area before the finish near the USS Kidd.

The Woman's Half Marathon and 10K offers runners the unique option to choose their running distance, even during the event. If training didn't quite prepare a runner to tackle the half - or if she's just ready to start the post-race party - she can simply turn north onto the 10K course.

"This option will provide runners with an unprecedented level of flexibility to choose the distance that is right for them, even once the race has started," explains Guess.

Participants can also join a fundraising team named "Pink Patrol for Women and Babies". Pink Patrol runners' admission fees and any additional funds they raise will support Woman's programs and services for women and infants in the community. Proceeds will support the following causes:

Mother-to-Child HIV Transmission Prevention program
Pediatric Home Care
Human Donor Milk program
Lactation program
Pediatric Sub-Specialty Care for Critically III Infants
Diabetes Prevention and Treatment
Care for Victims of Sexual Assault
Cancer Care and Support Services
Breast Cancer Outreach and Education

All runners will also be treated to a wellness boutique featuring top fitness brands and the latest running gear as well as opportunities to learn information about Woman's programs and services.
