March 1, 2010

Stanford, Calif. - The Stanford track and field teams get the outdoor season underway on Saturday when they host the Stanford Quad Meet. The meet is a rotating competition between Stanford, California, UC Davis and Fresno State to kick off the outdoor season. This year it is Stanford's turn to host the meet.

Recently, Cal Poly and San Francisco have also participated. The meet will begin at 11:40 am at Cobb Track and Angell Field.

The Cardinal are coming off a successful indoor season with both the men's and women's teams placing second at the MPSF Championships. Several athletes from both teams will be going on to compete in the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 12 and 13 in Fayetteville, Ark.

The rest of the athletes will begin looking forward to the outdoor season, beginning with the quad meet. As the Cardinal showed during the indoor season, both teams should be contenders for a Pac-10 title. Franklin P. Johnson Director of Track and Field Edrick Floreal has built programs that can compete in just about every event with some of the best in the nation.

Admission to the meet this weekend is free.
