Strong Start To Indoor Season For USC


Trojans compete at Washington Invitational



Brandon Estrada tied for second in the pole vault at Washington with an NCAA provisional qualifying height of 17-1 1/2 (5.22m).

Akene Anene led the Trojans by tying for first place in the triple jump at the Washington Invitational in Seattle, Wash. on Saturday, Jan. 30. USC also had five second-place finishes in the meet.

Anene had a triple jump of 41-5 (12.62m) to tie for first, just .03 meters from an NCAA indoor provisional mark to qualify for the championships. Alitta Boyd also had a jump of 39-10 1/2 (12.15m) to place third. Boyd also took third place in the long jump with a leap of 19-2 (5.84m). Kara Bickers had a jump of 17-1 14 (5.21m) in the long jump.

Judith Onyepunuka had the second-fastest 60m dash time of 7.50, while Dalilah Muhammad had the fifth-fastest time of 7.64 and Aareon Payne had the 10th-fastest time of 7.81. Muhammad also posted the second-fastest 200m dash time of 24.82.

Myra Hasson and Elizabeth Olear had strong 400m efforts in their first time out, Hasson having the second-fastest time of 54.71 and Olear the fourth-fastes time of 55.48.

In the pole vault, Brysun Stately tied for second with a clearance of 12-8 1/4 (3.87m). Jasmine Knight no heighted in the event.

Jennifer Stutland was USC's only competitor in the high jump and she came in 11th by clearing 4-11 3/4 (1.52m).

Marissa Minderler competed in the shot put and had the 13th farthest mark of 43-1 (13.13m). Also in the weight throw, Tamara Baumann had a mark of 47-7 1/4 (14.51m) good for 15th and Kathryn Daniels had a throw of 45-0 1/2 (13.73m) to place 18th.


Brandon Estrada and Derek Scott competed in the men's pole vault and tied for second and sixth respectively. Estrada cleared 17-1 1/2 (5.22m) which is an NCAA provisional qualifier and Scott cleared 16-1 3/4 (4.92m).

Oscar Spurlock posted the fastest time in the men's 60m HH of 7.94, but did not compete in the finals.
