MANCHESTER, Conn. -- In a very tightly contested New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship race on Sunday, Tufts University junior Amy Wilfert (Westborough, MA) finished in third place with a 21:41 time. She was two seconds behind race champion Sophia Galleher from Amherst and one second behind runner-up Ravenna Neville of Wesleyan.

This marked the fourth straight year that Tufts had a runner in the top 3 at NESCAC's. Stephanie McNamara was the runner-up last fall, Cat Beck was second in 2007, and Katy O'Brien won the race while Beck was second in 2006.

The Jumbos placed seventh as a team on Sunday. Sophomore Anya Price (Natick, MA) crossed the finish line second for the Jumbos and 39th overall in a 23:21 time over 3.8 miles. The third Tufts scorer was first-year Grace Hafner (Healdsburg, CA), who ran 24:01 for 55th place overall.

Sophomore Sadie Lansdale (Bethesda, MD) stepped up for Coach Kristen Morwick's team and was 61st overall (24:07), while classmate Kelsey Picciuto (Cornwall, NY) was the fifth Tufts scorer with a 24:09 time for 62nd place. The race featured 121 runners overall.

Middlebury won the team championship with a score of 49, 10 ahead of runner-up Williams.
