After a standout high school career at Kodiak High, which included a 15:55 5k XC performance and a team championship, Miles Dunbar has suffered a series of setbacks since coming to Chico that have halted his progress. In the fall a stubborn quad injury that wouldn’t go away was finally diagnosed as an infection on his femur. Because of this condition Dunbar needed two separate operations during the late fall to remove all of the infected tissue. Recovery from the infection lasted well into the spring which gave the frosh no opportunity to enjoy faster running. Upon return from the surgery he developed IT band problems that have only recently allowed him to return to running. We can only hope that better health lies ahead for this hard worker from Alaska. Running is definitely in his genes as father Marcus was a 4:00 miler while at University of Oregon, and younger brother Trevor is the two time defending state XC champion in Alaska .
