ERIC OLSON'S (NOVATO) SPLITS AT SACRAMENTO MEET OF CHAMPIONS

Eric Olson (Novato, Marin County, North Coast Section), a junior, won the 3,200 meters in 8:55.19, the fastest time in the nation this season. Olson ran the previous national best of 8:57.51 at the Woody Wilson Classic at UC Davis on April 17. Olson broke the meet record which stood for 21 years. The old meet record of 9:05.24c (9:02.29 for two miles) was set by Reggie Williams (River City, West Sacramento) in 1988.

Williams won the 1988 California State Meet 1600m (4:08.78) and 3200m (8:59.61) at Cerritos College in Norwalk on June 4; the Golden West Invitational 3000m in Sacramento on June 11, 1988 (8:16.79); the International Prep two-mile in Elmhurst, IL on June 18, 1988 (9:02.29); and the Junior TAC 5,000m (14:34.62)in Tallahasse, Florida on June 25, 1988. Williams led the nation in the 3000 meters 8:16.79 and the 5000 meters 14:19.9.

Williams went on to run for the University of California in Berkeley. He ran the 1500 meters in 3:44.76 in 1991, which was seventh best on the Cal All-Time List through 1999. 3:45.0 1500 = 4:01.6 1600. 3:44.5 1500 = 4:01.1 1600.
