Paris Golden League next up

Sanya Richards, Jeremy Wariner, Bernard Lagat and Lolo Jones are just a few of the American athletes to watch Friday at the Meeting Areva in Paris, the fourth leg of the AF Golden League 2009.

In the women's 400m, 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Sanya Richards is still in contention to win the jackpot, having already won races in Berlin, Oslo and Rome. She will face competition from 2009 USA Outdoor runner-up Debbie Dunn and Monica Hargrove.

On the men's side, two-time Olympic medalist and World Outdoor champion Jeremy Wariner is favored to win. 2008 Olympic bronze medalist David Neville is also entered. Wariner set the meet record in Paris last year when he blazed around the oval in 43.86 seconds.

2007 double World Outdoor champion Bernard Lagat will give Kenesia Bekele a run for his money in the men's 3,000m. Bekele is currently in the running for the Golden League jackpot.

World-ranked #1 in 2008 by Track & Field News, Lolo Jones is the hands down favorite in the women's 100m hurdles. Jones is out to prove that she still has it after hitting the fourth hurdle in the semi-final at the USA Outdoor Championships and failing to make Team USA for the World Outdoor Championships. Looking to spoil Jones' return to competition will be 2008 Olympic gold medalist Dawn Harper and two-time World Outdoor champion Michelle Perry. Two-time USA Outdoor champion Ginnie Powell and Damu Cherry also are entered.

The women's 100m is stacked with American talent. Two-time World Outdoor medalist Lauryn Williams will face two-time World Outdoor 200m champion and Olympic silver medalist Allyson Felix and 2009 NCAA champion Alex Anderson. Also in the mix will be 2003 World Outdoor champion Torri Edwards and 2008 Olympian Marshevet Hooker.

The women's 800m will see a contest between three-time Olympian Hazel Clark and 2009 Nike Prefontaine winner Maggie Vessey. Two-time USA Outdoor 1,500m champion Shannon Rowbury and 3,000m steeplechaser turned 1,500m runner Anna Willard will also compete.

In the men's 110m hurdles, four-time World Outdoor champion and 1996 Olympic gold medalist Allen Johnson will run just his second race since failing to qualify for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team. Also in the race will be 2009 USA Indoor runner-up Dexter Faulk and 2006 NCAA champion Aries Merritt.

Other athletes to keep an eye on include 2008 Olympian Tiffany Ross-Williams in the women's 400m hurdles and 2000 Olympic gold medalist and two-time World Outdoor champion Stacy Dragila in the women's pole vault. Four-time Olympian Amy Acuff and 2005 World Outdoor silver medalist Chaunte Howard are entered in the women's high jump and 2008 Olympian and 2004 Olympic silver medalist Toby Stevenson will compete in the men's pole vault.

Universal Sports will have live coverage of the IAAF Golden League Meeting Areva from Paris. Four athletes are still fighting for the Golden League $1 million USD jackpot. Visit www.UniversalSports.com from 2:00-4:00 pm ET live and at Universal Sports TV delayed at 5:00-7:00 pm ET.
